Job Purpose  

To assist and support pupils with special educational, social, emotional and behavioral difficulties. To promote and support the development of independent learning skills.

Job Interactions

Internal: School’s leadership team, academic and non-academic staff, students, parents, governors, Academic Board, and management.

  External: Professional partnerships with therapists, psychologists, counsellors, and specialized agencies and services that provide support to different groups of students with special reference to SODs.  

Job Requirements

Qualifications and certificates must be in compliance with the UAE regulatory framework.

Prior experience in the same or similar curriculum schools, where the candidate has held similar positions.

Prior experience in UAE educational institutions is an added advantage.  

Job Responsibilities


Working with the Senior Leadership Team, to ensure that the school’s vision is inclusive and reflected in all aspects of school provision and practice.

Provide support for a child with special educational, social, emotional and behavioral difficulties.  Support the development of independent learning skills.

To ensure that students under their care are successfully supported in the classroom or receive appropriate intervention which enables them to make progress independently.

To encourage and facilitate the child’s participation and successes in activities with peers (pair/ small group/ large group activities)

 Encourage and equip the child to become independent learners with positive reinforcements and praise.

Implementing the targets on the pupils’ Individual Education Plan (IEP) in liaison with the class teachers and the SODT.

Make or modify resources as directed by Line Manager.

 Exercise open and respectful communication with families, co-workers, supervisors, and other school staff

 Attending service training and relevant meetings relevant to the post to keep up to date with developments in working with children with special educational needs.

Support the school’s inclusive in vision, and reflect all its policies and practices (e.g., admission policy and safeguarding in day-to-day practice).

  Working with ELL students to support your child in overcoming potential barriers to his/her learning through an individual and/or group support program. 

 Implementing ELL Plans & working on IEP based reports. 

Additional support in mainstream classes with Classroom Teacher. consultation.

Group interventions outside of the class.

Targeted support of class work and class learning strategies.

Working with Gifted & Talented Students to provide support & opportunities as per their skills & abilities.

 Working with SOD students to provide support in pull out & push in sessions. 

 Implementing IEPs Plans & working on IEP based reports. 

Additional support in mainstream classes with Classroom Teacher consultation.

Group interventions outside of the class.

Targeted support of class work and class learning strategies.

Key Accountabilities

Students under their care to achieve their set targets in IEPs and make better than expected progress.

Use strategies that adequately meet the learning need of students under their care and provide appropriate levels of challenge and support.

Should practice school’s procedure for the safeguarding of students including child protection.

 Students are protected from all forms of abuse.

Adhere to all the contractual agreements during his/her tenure.
