Position Information 

The Senior Psychologist, Education coordinates and professionally supervises a team of school counsellors/school psychologists to deliver high quality psychological services to schools. They work closely with schools, other members of educational services teams and agencies to improve student learning and wellbeing outcomes.


The Senior Psychologist, Education provides professional leadership in the delivery of psychological services to school communities and has a key leadership role as part of the networked specialist centres.

Lansvale East Public School is a small, unique and diverse school situated in the epicentre of the Fairfield network, a part of South West Sydney - a highly multicultural community where students from a dynamic range of backgrounds come together in learning. The school has provided rich, quality educational opportunities for the students of Lansvale East for over 50 years. The school culture fosters a supportive, inclusive and family oriented setting with students, staff, parents, carers and the wider community working together to promote school excellence.


Currently, 136 students attend Lansvale East Public School across various classroom settings. Our school has five mainstream classes from Kindergarten to Year 6, including cross-stage and stage class structures, and a five Support Unit, which provides an integrated and inclusive learning environment for 31 students with special needs including Moderate Intellectual Disability and Autism Spectrum Disorder. Our school is supported by a strong and vibrant multicultural community. Currently, 91% of students have a non-English speaking background with the predominant language groups being Vietnamese, Arabic and Tongan and 2% of the student population identify as Aboriginal. We have over 20 languages spoken in the homes of our families and community. 83% of our students require English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D) support. The Vietnamese Community Language Program supports students in maintaining and developing further competence in their community language. We pride ourselves on embracing our diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.

  
Specific Selection Criteria 

In addition to the general selection criteria:

  • Successful experience as a school counsellor and registration as a psychologist. 
  • High level knowledge and skills in the provision of psychological assessment, counselling and evidence based interventions within a school context.
  • Demonstrated capacity to lead, support and professionally develop school counsellors/school psychologists, including those working towards registration as a psychologist.
  • Demonstrated capacity to establish interagency partnerships to assist schools to meet the wellbeing needs of students, in particular those students needing psychological intervention and support.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement school counselling strategies to support Department of Education initiatives.

 

  
General Selection Criteria 
  1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
  2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
  3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
  4. Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
  5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
  6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy

  • An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
