An opportunity has arisen to join PACA’s Science department. We are looking for a teacher who is passionate about biology to join the supportive and focused team and to add to the energy and enthusiasm we have for science at PACA.
In the last five years, the science team at PACA has developed an outstanding curriculum which successfully builds towards examination success. We have collaboratively built a tried and tested, fully resourced, 5 year curriculum that has greatly improved our student outcomes and our team’s work-life balance. In the 2022 GCSEs PACA consistently hit our targets to be in the top fifth of schools, with science having a ‘value added’ of 0.7. The team are highly cohesive, developing and enhancing teaching resources for the benefit of all. The department has 7 fully equipped labs as well as the STEM center. Each member of the team has a dedicated workspace with a desktop computer, this is situated in an open plan workroom.
Over the same 5 year period, PACA has doubled in size. We are a strong, inclusive community school serving students from across the west of Brighton and West Sussex. Our Good Ofsted report here noted: “Pupils and staff agree that, despite the ongoing growth of the school, everyone at PACA is known. … Pupils recognise that staff want the very best for them… This is reflected in calm and purposeful lessons”.
This is an exciting time to join PACA. The Ofsted report sets out a huge range of strengths for the school, and a few areas that we are excited to address to take us to a higher level.
The appointee will teach across the school to GCSE level. We are looking for a candidate with the potential to teach Triple biology for both Year 10 and 11 as well as biology to a range of abilities at KS4 in addition to all sciences at KS3. Our desired candidate will have an interest in children’s learning and the ability to form strong positive relationships with students. About Portslade Aldridge Community Academy
Welcome to Portslade Aldridge Community Academy (PACA), a thriving 11-16 school rated Good by Ofsted (2016). Our results have been consistently improving for over three years and our Progress 8 score (0.3) is now the second highest in the city. Recognised as Brighton’s Most Improved School in the local media in 2017, our KS3 student intake grew over 80% year on year in 2017, and is set for further significant growth in 2018.
PACA has developed a strong learning culture of “Expert Learner” with students actively engaged in their own progress. PACA is so much more than a school. We work closely with, and offer our facilities to, the wider community as well as partnering with local primary schools and employers. Those facilities, which have benefitted from an £13m investment since we became an academy, include a STEM centre, Mac suite, specialist dance and art studios, and a community library. Our positive contribution to the community in which we live and work was recognised in winning the Brighton Community School of 2016 Award and the Most Improved School in Brighton & Hove Award 2017.
