Job overview

We are seeking to appoint a talented, passionate and skilled Teacher of Design Technology to join a successful department in our Church of England 11-18 comprehensive school.

Hutton is a single sex boys school from 11-16 with 706 students currently on roll. The Sixth Form is co-educational from 16-18 with 152 students currently on roll. The school was judged ‘Good’ in all areas by Ofsted in May 2022 and ‘Outstanding’ in all areas by SIAMS in February 2018.

Technology is a popular subject at Hutton, and we are looking for a teacher who can use their skills, knowledge and experience to inspire, encourage and motivate our students to achieve their potential.

Our technology curriculum focuses on Resistant Materials, Graphic Products and Food Preparation and Nutrition, with all three subjects offered as GCSE options. We also offer A-level Product Design. Lessons are taught in well-equipped DT rooms and workshops with resources ranging from traditional hand tools and drawing boards up to Ultimaker 3D printers and Shining 3D scanners.

The successful candidate will be required to teach across all secondary Key Stages and will ideally specialise in the Resistant Materials pathway. The ability to also teach Graphic Products or Food Preparation and Nutrition would be an advantage but is not essential.

There may be an opportunity for additional whole school responsibilities if a candidate has significant skills and experience. Please contact the school if you wish to discuss this with the Head Teacher.

General questions regarding the post should be directed via email to the HR Administrator, Ms K Wohlman, at k.wohlman@huttongrammar.org.

Completed application forms and any accompanying documentation should be sent to k.wohlman@huttongrammar.org. All completed application forms should be accompanied by a letter, no longer than two sides A4 in length, outlining a candidate’s suitability for the post.

The school is committed to the safeguarding and well-being of all young people and expects all employees to share this commitment. The successful applicant will be subject to Enhanced DBS clearance. Please note that in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education 2023, an online search will be carried out as part of our due diligence on shortlisted candidates.

Closing Date: Monday 20th May 2024 at 4:00pm.
