Job overview

Congleton High School (CHS), is a rural school located in the heart of the Cheshire countryside. Recognised by Ofsted as “An inclusive school where you aim to get the best out of everyone”. We have a strong team ethos, with students and staff alike welcoming the opportunity to help others succeed. Staff members work collaboratively together with each other, students and parents to build strong relationships and improve outcomes for all.

The Learning Partnership

Formed of two local trusts on 1 September 2023, The Learning Alliance and The Learning for Life Partnership, The Learning Partnership is a diverse new multi-academy trust delivering excellent educational provision for pupils in primary and secondary schools across the North-West. The Trust primarily serves the communities of Crewe, Congleton, and Knutsford, and is now the largest multi-academy trust in Cheshire.

At The Learning Partnership, we believe that there are three core facets of our mission –people, passion, and performance. We are striving to build a community of the strongest people, inspiring a passion for education that galvanises these people to maximise their abilities, which supports all pupils to perform at their best. We believe that these core principles will create a culture that helps all our schools to improve and ensures pupil outcomes are the very best they can be.

The trust subscribes to the Education Staff Wellbeing Charter and places staff wellbeing at the forefront of its strategic people priorities. Our ongoing commitment in this area is reflected in our employee offer that includes:

  • Discounts in retail stores, entertainment, and supermarkets
  • Benefits schemes in affordable tech, cycle2work, gym memberships and a car scheme
  • Employee assistance programme providing specialist advice and guidance in a range of areas including menopause, financial management, and up to 8 counselling sessions per referral
  • Flexible working offered as a day 1 right of employment
  • Free parking
  • Access to high quality CPD and secondment opportunities

The role

This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic Teacher of Geography who can inspire a love for their subject in the students. The Humanities Faculty is located in a new building consisting of nine classrooms, one computer room, a meeting room and a shared Humanities office. The Faculty currently comprises eight full-time and two part-time members of staff, of whom three are Geography specialists. The Faculty has a long-standing reputation for being hard-working and for achieving high examination results. There is a major emphasis on collaborative working, shared resources, and contributing to a supportive environment for all staff and students. A sign of the faculty’s ethos and friendly supportive nature is that staff all meet every Monday for a shared meal cooked by one member of the department.

Geography is a popular subject at Congleton High School. There are currently four GCSE classes in Year 10 and three in Year 11, which follow the AQA specification. A Level classes also follow the AQA specification. Geography staff regularly go ‘above and beyond’ and support a range of activities such as after-school revision groups, overseas visits, and extra-curricular activities such as the school’s Eco Club. The Geography team also organises a range of field trips throughout the year.

The Humanities Faculty is led by the Curriculum Team Leader. Other TLR holders in the Faculty include the Deputy Curriculum Team Leader and two Assistant Curriculum Leaders. All TLR holders have subject-specific responsibilities within Humanities in addition to faculty-wide responsibilities.

Start date: 1st September 2024 (or earlier)

Advert Closing date: Tuesday 14th May 2024

Interviews will be held from the 15th May onwards

Please note Congleton High School reserve the right to interview candidates before the closing date, if suitable applications are received.

The Learning Partnership is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All staff appointments are subject to satisfactory references and enhanced checks with the Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS).

All posts involving direct contact with children are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. However, amendments to the Exceptions Order 1975 (2013 & 2020) provide that certain spent convictions and cautions are 'protected'. These are not subject to disclosure to employers and cannot be taken into account. Guidance and criteria on the filtering of these cautions and convictions can be found on the Ministry of Justice website.

Shortlisted candidates will be asked to provide details of all unspent convictions and those that would not be filtered, prior to the date of the interview. You may be asked for further information about your criminal history during the recruitment process. If your application is successful, this self-disclosure information will be checked against information from the Disclosure & Barring Service before your appointment is confirmed.

The Learning Partnership is committed to the promotion of equality of opportunity and the elimination of discrimination; all applicants should note that they will be considered on the basis of suitability regardless of disability, gender, race, religion, age, sexual orientation and marital status or any other discrimination which is unfair or unreasonable.

We particularly welcome applications from black, Asian and minority ethnic candidates, LGBTQ+ candidates and candidates with disabilities because we would like to increase the representation of these groups at The Learning Partnership. We want to do this because we know greater diversity will lead to even greater outcomes for children. We are proud to be an employer that holds Disability Committed and Menopause Friendly status.

The Trust is ‘happy to talk flexible working’. Flexible working increases workplace diversity by making roles accessible to those with caring responsibilities (primarily women), disabled staff, and both older and younger workers.
