Job overview

We are seeking an outstanding Teacher of German, French and/or Spanish to join our highly successful Languages Team.

The Languages Department at Shireland is a successful, forward-looking and creative department, regularly achieving results above the national average at GCSE.  German is taught across the age and ability range and we are now looking to expand our languages provision with the addition of French in Year 7 and 8.  German is taught in Year 7, 8 and 9, after which students can then opt to continue with their language learning.   We currently have 4 classes of German in KS4 and small groups of 6th Form students in Year 12 and 13.  At KS4 & 5 we follow the Oxford AQA Course and at KS3 we have created our own Schemes of Work suited to our learners.  We have a wide range of new technologies to enrich teaching and engage learners.

Language visits, both home and abroad, are positively encouraged and are very popular.  Pupils in KS3 have the opportunity to visit local Universities and also local Business to experience the benefits of languages in the world of work and we also run a trip to Boppard for pupils in all key stages.

We are an enthusiastic team, who use a wide range of teaching activities and strategies to enhance the students enjoyment of learning a foreign language while developing their linguistic skills and we are looking for someone with energy and vision to contribute to our teaching, learning, achievement and enrichment.

The Academy’s strong staff development focus makes this an ideal post for teachers wishing to develop their career.  Candidates should be able to respond to the busy and caring atmosphere of this outstanding Academy, be able to promote excellent results, be committed to extracurricular activities and be fully involved in school life.

In return we will offer:

• Excellent career development opportunities and access to a comprehensive programme of CPD

• An extensive support programme for NQT’s

• An ICT rich environment which allows staff to be innovative in harnessing technology for learning

Values and Vision

The curriculum at Shireland Collegiate Academy is unusual, both in terms of structure and teaching. The school has a very strong focus on technology, with ICT playing a huge role in the education of students across all subjects. In terms of organisation, Key Stage 3 students at the school spend a great deal of time with the same teacher, and older students follow a curriculum focused on equipping students with a diverse skill-set reflective of the modern workplace.

Ofsted

“This is an exceptional academy, which has maintained and built upon the very high standards seen at the last inspection. n Students, staff and parents are, quite rightly, proud to be associated with this academy. As one student said, ‘I feel privileged to be a student here.’”
