Job overview

Full time

To commence September 2024

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a well-qualified graduate to join the Physics Department at Loughborough Grammar School, an independent school for boys ages 10 to 18 years rated ‘excellent in all areas’ by ISI in 2021.

The Physics Department is a thriving, popular and high-achieving department of specialist and dedicated colleagues. Physics is very popular amongst our pupils, many of whom go on to study Physics and related subjects at university.

The post would suit both an ECT, for whom a full support programme is offered, and a more experienced teacher looking to move to an exceptional Physics Department with highly motivated pupils.

The successful candidate will be;

  • passionate about Physics and an advocate for putting pupils at the heart of everything they do by offering excellent teaching, establishing good relationships with their classes and ensuring that above all learning is fun.

  • keen to teach Physics across all key stages, including A-Level and in support of entry to Oxbridge and other leading universities. Support will be given to candidates lacking experience in these areas who are eager to develop their pedagogy.

  • able to teach Chemistry and/or Biology at Key Stage 3; the ability to teach Chemistry and/or Biology to GCSE could be an advantage.

There is also a wealth of co-curricular opportunities for the successful candidate to become involved in, both within the Physics Department and in the whole School, and an enthusiasm to be involved in the co-curricular and pastoral life of this busy and vibrant School is expected.

The Physics Department has its own dedicated building containing 6 fully equipped modern laboratories, prep rooms and a specialist technician team.

Promotion of the values of LGS is integral to the role, and it is essential that the successful candidate is a good role model for the boys and prepares them to make a positive contribution to society.

Loughborough Grammar School

Loughborough Grammar School is a leading independent day school with a small boarding element. The School provides education to boys aged 10–18 and is one of the four Loughborough Schools Foundation. Staff benefit from reduced fees for their children in any of the four schools. The School is situated in the university town of Loughborough in the East Midlands: one of the rare regions in England where property prices remain at an affordable level for teachers and young families.

This is a vibrant school for intellectually curious pupils. With an abundance of first-class facilities and outstanding teaching staff, we deliver a high quality holistic education, where the co-curricular is valued alongside academic achievements.

Objective: our objective is to be the school of first-choice for boys throughout the East Midlands. Our aims are that pupils become:

• intellectually curious lifelong learners with the confidence to be innovative

• healthy young men with a sense of perspective, whose emotional wellbeing is assured through development of their self-esteem

• independently-minded young adults who demonstrate good judgement in their decisions and integrity in their relationships with other people

• engaged citizens with a healthy respect for others and their differences

• self-disciplined, adaptable leaders and team players, who embrace challenge and change

Ethos and Religion:

Although the school is proud of its Christian heritage dating back to 1495, Loughborough Grammar School welcomes pupils from all faiths (and of none) and makes provision for their spiritual welfare. The ‘spirit’ of Loughborough Grammar School is nurtured by fostering good relationships between all members of the community based on the core values of mutual respect, kindness and the Golden Rule of treating others as we would like to be treated ourselves.

The acquisition of a moral compass, so dear to our founders five centuries ago, remains of fundamental importance. However, we are also determined to offer boys a thoroughly modern learning experience, benefitting from first-class facilities and an understanding of the importance of an all-round education which helps to develop the emotional intelligence required to make a success of their personal and professional lives.
