Job overview

We are looking for a well-qualified and enthusiastic Teacher of Physics.

All pupils entering the School are taught three separate sciences from Year 7. In Years 7 and 8, we follow bespoke schemes of work designed to smooth the transition from different primary settings and to develop a range of skills. In Year 9, all pupils begin the IGCSE course, following the Edexcel IGCSE Specification. In Year 10 and Year 11, pupils can elect to continue their studies with IGCSE Double Award Science or with the full IGCSE separate science courses.

Over half of the pupils in the Sixth Form study at least one Science at A Level, with a healthy number of girls choosing to continue their study of Physics at A Level, following the OCR specification.

The Physics Department offers many enrichment opportunities including a STEAM Club, educational trips including to NASA, CERN and Paris, a lunchtime lecture series and various competitions. The Science Department currently comprises ten teaching staff. Most teachers teach throughout the full 11-18 age range.

The Science Department is housed in a separate science building with five up-to-date, spacious laboratories. There is also a brand new, state of the art science laboratory in the new Sixth Form teaching area known as the Old School House. Each laboratory is equipped with a docking station for a Microsoft Surface, projector, and sound system, and all have whiteboards and large screens. The department has a generous array of practical equipment and excellent technical support from four full time technicians.

Francis Holland Trust has its own generous salary scale with season ticket loan available.

The Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment. Statutory checks including a satisfactory DBS certificate and references will be a requirement for this role. This role is classed as regulated activity with children as it involves teaching, training or supervising children on a day-to-day basis and is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act, 1974.
