Job overview

Teacher of Science

Permanent Contract – Full Time

Start date: September 2024

Salary: Main Pay Scale/Upper Pay Scale (Suitable for ECTs)

That feeling of awe and wonder when a student is blown away with the marvels of science and the doors it opens – it’s what we thrive on and why we do the job. If you agree, we’d love to hear from you. If you’d love to work with a full team of specialists, who share your passion for the sciences, then you’ve found your next job.

You will join a close knit team that are achieving special things, with GCSE results well above national, fabulous a-Level results, and one that is at the forefront of learning in science. We have dozens of specialist labs, a significant investment into practical science through our large team of technicians, and a commitment to promote the sciences to all .

Are you able to:

  • Inspire and innovate?
  • Nurture and develop (yourself as well as others)?
  • Commit to, and raise further, high achievement and motivation?
  • Optimise Science learning for all?

Then come and see us. We are looking for potential as much as experience so we welcome applications from ITTs. Here’s just a few reasons why you’d be mad not to:

  • Our greatest strength is our people and we work hard to make sure you know that. Wellbeing is central to all we do – we have dedicated wellbeing days for staff, early finishes for you to take the time you need, and next year we are trialling a two-week autumn break in the busiest of times
  • Our students are exceptional – bright, inquisitive, respectful and diligent and they provide an environment where you can teach and realise your potential, as well as theirs
  •  Not to mention the Leadership breakfast we cook you now and again, just to say thank you, the end of term events, Easter Eggs, advent calendars, or summer BBQ. Staff wellbeing is at our core and we want you to know that we do what we do because of you
  •  Planning your lessons is crucial and it’s always easier when we collaborate – we’ve put in place hours of co-planning so that you can share best practice and resources and not have to sit at home doing it on your own.

In addition, we will offer:

  • A culture of bespoke professional development from our own Leadership Academy
  • The opportunity to make a difference
  • Staff iPads
  • Benefit schemes
  • The benefit of being part of a multi-academy trust offering collaboration, support of experienced colleagues across our schools and greater opportunities for career progression

Bohunt School is a mixed 11-18 School and Sixth Form with more than 1800 students on roll. We are the state school of choice for the local area and draw students from the surrounding region, including the counties of Surrey and West Sussex.

In 2013 we were rated as Outstanding in all categories by Ofsted and in 2014 we were named ‘Overall School of the Year’ by the Times. Due to our heritage as a Specialist Language College our curriculum maintains a strong international flavour, including immersion language teaching in Mandarin and French. We are a busy and vibrant school with high expectations and aspirations for all members of our learning community.

Bohunt School became founder of the Bohunt Education Trust (BET) in 2014.

BET is ambitious. Beyond running its individual schools highly successfully, we aim to transform education in Britain by sharing the experiences, insights and methods we’ve pioneered in own schools.

Teach at BET

BET recognises and nurtures your skills, talents and sense of vocation. As a BET teacher, you’ll be encouraged to explore and extend your own practice, through our innovative teaching methods and partnerships with business and industry. You’ll also enjoy fantastic opportunities for professional and subject-specific training and development to enhance both the classroom experience for your students and your own career progression.

Our Vision

Bohunt's ethos of ‘enjoy, respect, achieve’ underpins our vision to give all students an outstanding education and develop skills in the classroom and beyond. These core values help our students flourish throughout their school career, and on into later life.

Enjoy: At Bohunt enjoyable learning takes place in a stimulating, vibrant environment and within a framework of high expectation.

Respect: We promote a strong sense of self-worth combined with a respect for others. Consistently high expectations are embedded within an environment that is founded on mutually respectful relationships between students, staff and parents

Achieve: We are proud of our academic success and are one of the top performing state schools in the country. Our personalised curriculum provides students with an equality of opportunity that ensures all learners achieve, whatever their interests and strengths.

Bohunt School exists to meet the educational needs of all its students. Central to our philosophy is a belief that each individual is capable of making a positive and significant contribution to society.

Sixth Form

Bohunt Sixth Form opened in September 2017 in purpose built accommodation surrounded by open countryside, a short walk away from the main school. Bohunt Sixth Form offers inspirational opportunities for those who relish intellectual challenge, and support from expert staff who know students well.

Community

We are proud to serve our community by providing for its leisure, learning and social needs; our facilities are extensive and impressive and include squash courts, a floodlit artificial turf pitch and changing pavilion, a fully equipped fitness room and a sports hall.

TESLA

We are a lead school in the TESLA Teaching School Alliance which is a partnership of educators who have the highest expectations and are striving to achieve exceptional education for all by removing barriers to learning, challenging established pedagogy and raising aspirations. TESLA offers a growing range of bespoke continuing professional development and leadership development courses, from newly and recently qualified teachers, to aspiring Headteachers. As a lead school for School Direct, we provide excellent Initial Teacher Training in collaboration with a wide number of Higher Education Institutions

We are a close-knit team here at Bohunt School, all dedicated to seeing the students under our care thrive, develop and succeed. Everyone brings their own gifts, talents, personality and experience to their role, helping to sustain our rich and diverse learning culture. We take our position of trust extremely seriously, and you’ll be required to obtain Enhanced DBS check before joining our team.
