About UTC Swindon
About UTC Swindon
Located in the heart of the historic Railway Village, UTC Swindon is a co-educational University Technical College, specialising in Engineering and Digital Technology. The school offers places to students aged 14-19, with entry points at Year 10 and Year 12.
The school was founded in 2014, joining the Activate Learning Education Trust (ALET) in September 2017. The campus combines traditional and modern architecture, state of the art specialist engineering and digital technology equipment and facilities within an inspirational learning environment. We currently have 180 students and will grow to a capacity of around 500 in the coming years.
With an increasing demand for skilled and work-ready young people to fill the STEM employment gap, UTC Swindon is well placed both locally and regionally in rising to this challenge. Students follow a general core curriculum in Key Stage 4, along with specialist qualifications in Engineering and Digital Technology including cyber security. Sixth Form courses concentrate on STEM qualifications at Level 3 and the offer includes A-level English Literature.
Industrial partners are central to our work in delivering talented, appropriately qualified and motivated young people and regular experiences and real-life employer set projects, bring significant elements of students’ work into relevance. All students undertake work experience placements in Years 10 and 12. Consequently, we have exceptional positive progression rates for students at the ages of 16 and 18. In 2022, 75% of Year 13 students advanced into apprenticeship programmes.
Values and Vision
UTC Swindon is part of the Activate Learning Education Trust (ALET), with a central vision to “Transform lives through learning”. We have an ethos based on collaboration through our attributes of Respect, being Organised, Constructive and Kind. This underpins our mission:
“To raise aspirations and transform lives through Engineering and Technology by inspiring our students to contribute and influence the modern world, by meeting the intellectual and emotional demands of a dynamic local and global community.”
Students and staff work together to ensure the best possible outcomes and we strive to support all to be successful and thrive as members of our community.
If you inspired to make a real difference in creating the next generation of STEM pioneers and innovators, in a field that is consistently failing to recruit, UTC Swindon could well be the place for you!
I look forward to meeting you.
