Job Purpose

To effectively plan and prepare lessons, teaching effectively according to educational need a group of assigned students. To use the college evidence collection system to ensure the collection of evidence for assessment and recording of learner progress. To appropriately assess, record and report on the development, progress and attainment of students, taking into account the curriculum and policies of the College. To manage a team of support assistants and liaise with therapists and other professionals as required.

Key Responsibilities

 

Teaching, Learning and Curriculum Management

  • ·        Planning and preparing lessons.
  • ·        Teaching allocated students according to educational needs, promoting the development of the abilities and aptitudes of all learners.
  • ·        Assessing, recording and reporting on the development, progress and attainment of students in line with college policy.
  • ·        Implementing the teaching and learning and associated quality assurance policies for the college.
  • ·        The management of a team of support assistants and liaise with therapists and other professionals who work with the students including support for new team members.
  • ·        Determining an individual learning programme for each student that ensures an appropriately differentiated curriculum.
  • ·        Ensuring an appropriately differentiated curriculum is planned and delivered for each student in line with the curriculum and course.
  • ·        Developing long, medium term and weekly plans including the provision of virtual learning in line with the virtual learning policy where required.
  • ·        Joining in with peer mentoring to improve the delivery of the curriculum.
  • ·        Liaising with the Transitions Department to ensure a smooth transition for students into and from the college.
  • ·        Developing close links with Therapists re individual students with physical and communication and computer technology needs to support/enable their development and access to the curriculum.
  • ·        Engaging in weekly meetings with the class team of support staff to ensure clear learning outcomes for all students are communicated effectively.
  • ·        Making effective and appropriate use of resources available to support learning including the use of technology.
  • ·        To contribute to the implementation of the College Quality Improvement Plan as directed by line manager.

Safeguarding

  • ·        To have due regard for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people
  • ·        To follow the safeguarding procedures adopted by Livability and within the college policies.

 Essential Qualifications, Skills and Knowledge:

  • ·        A degree or equivalent professional qualification.
  • ·        Formal teaching qualification (PGCE or Certificate in Education)
  • ·        Evidence of continued professional and personal development.
  • ·        Understanding of, and commitment to, the principles, ethos and Christian values of Livability and of Millie College
  • ·        An understanding of safeguarding and a commitment to creating a safe environment.
  • ·        Willingness to learn new tasks and undertake further training
  • ·        Minimum of 2 years professional experience working with children/young people
  • ·        Excellent knowledge of word processing, spread sheets and presentation packages
  • ·        Commitment to Inclusion
  • ·        Commitment to share responsibility for the education and care of students
  • ·        Excellent communication skills
  • ·        Full driving license and willingness and ability to drive college mini-buses/cars
  • ·        Advanced qualification in SEN or a commitment to obtaining such a qualification within three years of appointment.
  • ·        Excellent IT skills
  • ·        Evidence of direct experience and/or knowledge of disability.
  • ·        Experience of using SEN specific applications or technology.
  • ·        Experience of leading teams.
