ST ALOYSIUS’ COLLEGE

St Aloysius’ College is unique. Scotland’s only Jesuit school is situated at the very heart of the city of Glasgow. Our iconic green blazer is as much a part of the city as the Clyde and Central Station. More than 800 students are educated across the Junior and Senior Schools (3-18). BUSINESS AND ECONOMICS

Business Management is taught from National 5 level in S3 to Advanced Higher in S6. Economics is offered at Higher and Advanced Higher level.

TEACHER OF BUSINESS (Part Time 0.6FTE) from August 2024

The post is initially a part-time fixed-term contract to June 2025, but could become permanent for the correct candidate. Applications from NQTs and probationers are welcome. The successful candidate for this post will primarily teach Business Management, but the ability to teach Economics would also be welcome.

The department fosters an atmosphere of achievement, enjoyment and success and prides itself on achieving great results in SQA examinations. Equally important is the sustaining and fostering of a passion for everything related to Business and Enterprise in all pupils.

Staff are encouraged to develop lessons that will inspire and motivate pupils to reach their full potential. We would look to the successful candidate to pursue a variety of pedagogical approaches in class and develop resources to support lessons and courses. St Aloysius’ College also encourages staff to take advantage of continuous life-long professional learning opportunities to update their skills and improve their knowledge.

OUTLINE OF TEACHER DUTIES

·        Teaching assigned classes together with associated preparation

 ·        Delivering a curriculum that engages and motivates students

 ·        Supporting and assisting in the development of aspects of the departmental improvement plan

·        Assessing, recording and reporting on the work of pupils

 ·        Preparing pupils for examinations in line with latest guidance

 ·        Providing advice and guidance to pupils on issues related to their education

·        Promoting and safeguarding the health, welfare and safety of pupils

·        Working in partnership with parents, support staff and other professionals.

 ·       Undertaking appropriate and agreed continuing professional development

 ·        Participating in issues related to school planning, raising achievement and individual review

 ·        Contributing to the wider needs of the school

 ·        Contributing to the wider life of the College and the spiritual and religious experience of pupils

Person Specification 

Qualifications/Training

Essential

Degree level in Business or closely related discipline.

GTCS Registration

Relevant current teaching qualification.

Desirable

Additional Teaching Qualification in Economics or other subjects.

Experience

Essential

Experience of presentation for National Qualifications.

Evidence of an ability to plan coherent progressive and stimulating teaching programmes matched to individual pupils’ needs.

Ability to incorporate a range of innovative and creative teaching strategies and methodology.

Skills/Knowledge

Essential

Evidence of an ability to organise and manage classes and resources to achieve appropriate, safe, stimulating and meaningful learning experiences for pupils.

Can manage pupil behaviour and classroom incidents fairly, sensitively and consistently.

Promotes positive behaviour and can seek and use the advice of colleagues.

Can evaluate and justify the approaches taken to managing pupils and, when necessary take effective action to improve them.

Strong understanding or willingness to quickly acquire an understanding of Jesuit teaching and educational values and how these impact and enhance the learning experience at St Aloysius

Strong ICT skills with an understanding of how technology can facilitate learning and drive attainment

The application form is available from the College website and applications should be received not later than 9am on Monday May 20th. Applications received after this date will not be considered. CVs are not accepted.

Interviews will take place on Wednesday May 29th.

You should nominate two referees to support your application (please note referees will be asked to assess you against the person specification above rather than being generic in nature). References will be taken up for the successful candidate after the interview.
