Brockenhurst College has an exciting opportunity for an Art and Design Lecturer to join their dedicated and enthusiastic team on a part time (0.8 fraction) permanent basis. In return, you will receive a competitive salary of £31,000 to £41,217 pro rata per annum DOE. (Unqualified teachers £24,547 to £31,000 pro rata per annum.)

We are a high-achieving college who attract around 2,800 sixth form students across the region each year. We are based within the stunning New Forest National Park and offer our students a huge range of courses and superb facilities.

About the role:

As the Art and Design Lecturer you will continually improve the learning experience and achievement of students through effective teaching.

 Responsibilities as our Art and Design Lecturer will include:

  • Teaching on courses as agreed with the Head of Curriculum, BTEC Level 3 Art and Design, and CTEC Level 2 Art and Design, although courses may be subject to change within Art and Design.
  • Provide pastoral support where required.
  • Acting as Course Leader, when requested
  • Preparing and marking student work, monitoring progress towards individual targets, keeping records and providing timely reports/reviews to students, parents, employers and College managers, as appropriate
  • Working closely with other colleagues to respond to the needs of students
  • Paying due attention to the principles of inclusive learning including:
  •  individual learning styles
  • support for students with learning difficulties and disabilities
  • extension resources/activities for students of higher ability;
  • general resources, including the use of Information Learning Technology.
  • Contributing to the design, delivery and future planning and development of the curriculum
  • Contributing to the teaching/learning resource bank for the relevant subject/course
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of developments in the relevant subject/course
  • Developing and maintaining effective external links related to the delivery of the subject/course and representing the College at relevant meetings.
  • Organise and participate in relevant visits, field trips etc.
  • Attend and contribute to relevant meetings, including Enrolment/Open Events and Parents’ Evening, as appropriate.
  • Advise and assist the Head of Department and other team members in all matters related to the delivery of subject specialisms.
  • Participate, as a team member, in the development of teaching methods and strategies towards an ethos of continuous improvement.
  • Contribute to the self-assessment process and take responsibility for relevant actions and targets in the development plan for the curriculum area.
  • Participate in the College’s Lesson Observation Scheme.
  • Undertake professional development and training to contribute to individual and College development.
  • Undertake such duties as may be reasonably requested from time to time.


As our Art & Design Lecturer, you’ll ideally have:

  • A Degree or equivalent professional qualification in the relevant subject area
  • Appropriate teacher training qualification (or working towards this)
  • Excellent teaching skills
  • Strong knowledge of Art & Design Theory, knowledge and delivery of theoretical units on vocational programmes essentials
  • High level practical skills in the areas of Art and Design

·       Able to develop effective learning resources

·       Knowledge and understanding of current developments in the Art and Design area

·       Knowledge of appropriate health and safety requirements

  • Supportive and positive approach to teaching
  • Empathy with and a strong commitment to meeting the needs of individual students
