Job overview

Full Time Art Teacher required from September 2018

Salary main scale plus fringe and SEN1 allowance (NQTs considered)

We are a secondary special school for pupils who have learning and additional needs. Many of our pupils are also on the Autistic spectrum. We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and motivated teacher of Art who will join a dynamic, dedicated and energetic team of teachers from September 2018. This is an exciting opportunity for an exceptional experienced or newly qualified classroom teacher to make a significant contribution to the school. We are looking for a colleague who will embrace our drive to ensure that Art is a fundamental part of our school curriculum and has students' progress at the forefront of their teaching.

Some of our pupils, although of secondary age, are working at KS1 and 2 levels and therefore this role would suit both primary and secondary qualified teachers. The ability to teach art up to a GCSE level would be advantageous as would a knowledge of the Art Entry level award. The post holder would also be required to undertake the role of form tutor and teach a small amount of other curriculum subjects.

Visits to our school by potential applicants are essential.

We were graded Outstanding by OFSTED in 2009, 2012 and 2016.

Closing date for applications noon 7th February 2018. Interviews on 6th March 2018. Please see our website for the application form and job description.

This school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff to share this commitment. Enhanced DBS, Children’s Barred List and Right to work in the UK checks are required for this post.

About The Abbey School

The Abbey School is a strong and vibrant special school with places for just over 130 students aged 11-16 years who have learning difficulties and additional needs. Working in a special school is extremely rewarding, and our students continue to amaze us on a daily basis with their attitudes, achievements and behaviour.

We converted to Academy status on 1st September 2018 and are part of the Weydon Multi Academy Trust (WMAT), a dynamic, forward-thinking and innovative Trust. We are currently seven schools – three special schools and four secondaries within the Farnham, Godalming and Haslemere areas.

There are regular opportunities for collaborative working, CPD and the sharing of expertise between staff across the schools. There are also opportunities for staff to join a range of WMAT working groups to further their own continuing professional development.

It is a very exciting time to join our team as we move towards the next stage of our development within WMAT.
