PART-TIME TEACHER OF ART REQUIRED FOR SEPTEMBER 2018

Hampton Court House is a fast-growing co-educational independent school situated in beautiful riverside parkland between Richmond and Hampton in southwest London.

Hampton Court House has 240 pupils from Nursery through to Year 13. Our Sixth Form opened in September 2015.

Our Sixth Form teaching is scheduled between 1.30 pm and 7 pm to suit the circadian rhythm of adolescents in their late teens. Class sizes at A level are very small and our students are of a high calibre looking towards Oxbridge and other Russell Group universities.

We are seeking to appoint a creative, passionate and dedicated part-time teacher of Art to join a forward thinking and successful team. Working in a small, friendly school with curious students and support from our experienced staff.

We are an innovative school that looks ahead, plans for and embraces change and we look for hard working candidates who will seek an active role in taking the school forward with a positive and “can do” attitude.

The suitable candidate will be experienced in teaching middle and upper years, can demonstrate an infectious passion for teaching and expert subject knowledge. They should have a sound understanding of colour theory and art history, as well as knowledge of traditional fine art practice and digital photography.

Based at one of the country’s most creative independent schools, this role is suitable either for an experienced or a newly qualified teacher. Practical knowledge of teaching GCSE and A level will be a distinct advantage.

A willingness to be involved in the wider life of the school, including contributing to extra-curricular activities and after-school workshops is essential.

The closing date for applications is 23 February 2018

Interviews will be held during week commencing 12 March 2018.

If you would like to discuss informally further details of the post, please contact the Head of Art, Eve Blackwood, by email (eb@hchnet.co.uk) or telephone (020 8614 0865).

Hampton Court House is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. All applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service.

A generous fee reduction is available on tuition fees for the children of all members of staff at Hampton Court House.

Nestled in Bushy Park, Richmond-upon-Thames, Hampton Court House is an independent co-educational day school for ages 2 – 18, educating Early Years children in our Pre-Prep School & Nursery, The Little Courtiers, to students in Year 13.

The majority of our pupils elect to stay on to complete their full education with us, enjoying great success in their GCSEs and A Levels: in 2023, 40% of A Level grades were awarded A*/A, resulting in a 100% Oxbridge and Russell Group application success rate. Our GCSE results were equally strong, with 70% of all GCSE grades being awarded A*/A. Hampton Court House was in 2022 ranked in the top 50 independent schools nationwide (The Telegraph) and in the top 10 co-educational independent schools in London (School Owl, 2023).

Our programmes offer an extraordinary education. From the Forest School in Early Years and the award-winning Institut francais LabelFrancÉducation accredited French bilingual programme, to the Nebula Future Researcher’s Programme © in the Sixth Form, Hampton Court House pupils get a head start every step of the way.

We lay the foundations of a lifelong love of learning, and it is important to us that children enjoy being here and look forward to coming to school. In keeping with our ethos, we believe that children need some guided freedom in order to develop their independence and confidence to use their voice. Our non-uniform parkland campus environment, in which staff and pupils alike are addressed on a first-name basis, cultivates an energy where pupils grow in confidence and find themselves.

The school is located close to Hampton Court station, which is 35 minutes from Waterloo and 20 minutes from Wimbledon by train. There are also frequent buses to and from Kingston, Hampton, Teddington and Twickenham, or for staff who drive, there is on-site parking.
