The Role

To support students and staff, preparing materials, and ensuring that the classroom environment is safe and fit for purpose.

We are an exciting, dynamic and popular department, delivering BTEC Extended Diploma in Art and Design Practice, A Level Textiles, A Level Fine Art and UAL Foundation Diploma in Art and Design.

The A Level and BTEC courses are housed in St James’ Art & Design building. Art Foundation is delivered in a newly-built studio, within the St Bede building. Our resources are excellent, including fully equipped studios, enabling our learners to produce a wide range of two dimensional and three dimensional artwork. Highlights include: large, open-plan workspaces; print-making facilities; textiles facilities; a ceramics / 3D room and Apple Macintosh design suites.

In our Self-Assessment Report we have consistently maintained Excellent Achievement and High Grades with all subject areas above benchmark for achievement and retention. The department is recognised for its outstanding support for all students and outstanding progression to arts related university courses. The exceptional ethos of the College is supported by the department with an exciting range of enrichment including: trips, guest speakers, exhibitions and contributions to public art in the local community. The Department scores very highly on feedback from students’ evaluations of their courses. It is a highly popular area of the College with a thriving and vibrant output across all disciplines. There are currently around 270 Art students within the Faculty of Art and Design.

The main duties and responsibilities of this role include:

  • To provide technical support to all courses within the departments of Art & Design
  • To prepare materials for lessons and to photocopy resources where appropriate
  • To organise storage of students’ work and keeping records of students’ work
  • The organisation and effective running of the studios
  • The organisation and maintenance of practical and IT equipment in classrooms

The Successful Candidate

Cardinal Newman College is a wonderful place to work, and this is an exciting opportunity for a enthusiastic and experienced candidate to join our friendly and well established Art department.

The Art department is looking for someone who is educated to level 3, has experience of providing support to the learning process and is a good team player.

You should display the values, attitudes, and behaviours consistent with the Catholic Ethos of the College and have a commitment to equality/diversity and the safeguarding of young people and vulnerable adults.

Terms and Conditions

Hours: 14.8 hours per week, term time only. The working hours and days will be 8.30am - 4.30pm, Tuesday & Wednesday.
