St Helen’s is an academically selective independent girls’ day school of more than 1200 students aged 3-18, set in beautiful green space in Northwood, Middlesex.
St Helen’s is looking to appoint a permanent, Assistant Business Director to start with immediate effect. The role will report directly to the Business Director (the most senior support role in the school). The role is full time, Monday to Friday, throughout the year.
The Assistant Business Director supports the Business Director, as a member of the Support Senior Management Team to ensure:
- the contractual oversight and review of key external contractor services, e.g. catering/cleaning.
- project management as directed by the Business Director
- oversight and responsibility for the implementation of an effective Risk and compliance framework.
It is essential for the successful candidate to have the following qualifications, experience, and personal attributes:
- Level 4 or above in Maths and English Language at GCSE or equivalent
- Advanced proficiency of applications within the Microsoft office suite (Outlook/Word/Excel/PowerPoint)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to plan and prioritise workload to meet deadlines (time management skills)
- Ability to manage multiple tasks/projects/priorities simultaneously.
- Able to develop instant rapport and develop strong working relationships with key stakeholders.
- Strong presentation skills
- Demonstrable financial acumen
- Demonstrable knowledge of a school environment
- Demonstrable knowledge of safeguarding requirements required within a school.
- Previous experience/positions held with responsibility for:
- procurement policies and procedures
- Contract management.
- Commercial or not for profit operational role
- Delivery of change projects
- Budget management
- Operations management
- Risk management.
- Team management
- Gravitas and instant impact
- Practical and self-motivated
- Calm under pressure.
- Articulate and confident communicator
- Able to work mostly onsite and attend major school events at weekends and evenings.

THE SELECTION PROCESS
Shortlisted candidates will be invited to the school where they will be interviewed
by the Business Director, participate in a skills test, have a tour of the
school and meet other members of the Support Senior Management Team.
