Job overview

Discover what we can offer you

Would you like to work nine days but be paid for ten? What really sets The Highcrest Academy apart is our teachers: their passion drives our progress and transforms the way we think and work, and in return, we are committed to their well-being and mental health. We understand the pressures that working in education can place on individuals and are always looking for ways to improve working conditions and offer our staff incentives that are not always available in education.

From September 2024, we will be implementing a nine-day working fortnight for all staff. The premise is simple: you will work nine days but be paid for ten, using the tenth day to ‘reset’, thus giving you the opportunity to manage your work/life balance more effectively. You will also enjoy a Wellness Day to relax and unwind every year in addition to school holidays.

Furthermore, we offer significant investment in your professional development and the possibility of onsite accommodation if you need to relocate. You can also expect facilities that are second to none, including an excellent canteen, gym and coffee shop, but above all, you will relish the satisfaction of transforming futures and helping our students overcome obstacles to experience life to the full.

Take your career to the next level

As the only all-ability academy in Buckinghamshire, we do whatever it takes to tackle disadvantage and provide an outstanding education to everyone. Our innovative curriculum is as diverse as our student community and is purpose-designed to release the potential of academic high-flyers and those with SEN alike. You can join us as you take your career to the next level.

Explore the opportunity

In this role, you will support the Head of Sixth Form in delivering exceptional pastoral and administrative support to our Sixth Form students. To be successful, you will be passionate about improving the outcomes for the students in our care and will be imaginative and resourceful in your approach. You will have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to communicate effectively with students, parents and colleagues. No two days are the same, and a sense of humour, resilience and a positive attitude are essential. You will be able to provide support to all students, ranging from those with SEN to the most able. This will be achieved through combinations of the following:

  • Mentoring/coaching of pupils – helping the Head of Sixth Form to identify groups of students in need of more support and working closely with them individually or in small groups to improve academic and personal outcomes
  • Monitoring Sixth Form attendance – liaising with the Attendance Officer to monitor Sixth Form attendance to align with whole-school targets
  • Registration and supervision of study sessions within the Sixth Form Block and around the school
  • Management of resources within the Sixth Form Block
  • Confidence to liaise with external agencies where necessary
  • Coordination and delivery of interventions, keeping records of the impact it has had on the students involved

Experience of working with secondary school-age children or young adults would be an advantage, as would an interest in psychology and mental health.

In this role, you will work 37 hours per week (8.00am to 4.00pm Monday to Thursday and 9.00am to 3.00pm Friday), Term Time only plus one week for INSETs and one week in the Summer holiday.

If you’re ready to join our team, please complete our online application form via the apply button.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Closing date: 3rd June 2024.

Please note, we will be reviewing applications on an ongoing basis and may close the advert early should we receive an exceptional candidate, so we recommend applying early.

The Highcrest Academy is fully committed to safeguarding children (polices on web). All members of staff are in a "regulated" role under the Vetting & Barring Scheme and have to be DBS cleared prior to employment.

The Highcrest Academy is a vibrant, happy school in which every student is given the opportunity to develop their talents and to flourish as individuals. We are relentless in our pursuit of building a cohesive culture and curriculum that matches the varied needs of our students.

Our motto, ‘Aspire and Achieve’ is central to our philosophy. We are committed to making sure that every student makes outstanding progress and succeeds both academically and in terms of their spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. Indeed, we value a strong work ethic and aim to develop, sometimes hidden or unsuspected talent, into fruition.

At Highcrest, we are committed to setting high expectations for the conduct of our pupils and believe it is crucial for there to be an established culture in which all are able to excel. We want all the children who come to the academy to enjoy their learning and to become thoughtful, articulate, confident and responsible members of society.

Our personalised curriculum is enhanced by numerous extra-curricular opportunities, community and business projects, national and international competitions and a thriving House System. This encourages staff and students of all ages to work together.

The Highcrest Academy is the only all-ability academy in Buckinghamshire and is a culturally diverse, over-subscribed school, making it a fantastic place to teach. There are approximately 1000 students on roll, including Sixth Form. We know from pupil surveys that students are proud of our school and, when parents have been surveyed, the level of parent satisfaction has also been exceptionally high.

We are very aware that The Highcrest Academy is part of a community and we work hard to instil a sense of local and global responsibility. This means that students take part in many activities which enhance the local community, and have a real understanding of their role in improving the work community.

Our mission is to create a positive, secure and happy learning environment where all students experience success, friendship, respect and self-worth; where students value and celebrate the diverse talents and cultural heritage of all, and achieve their full potential in becoming responsible citizens, respecting the rights of other and contributing to our society.
