Job overview

Assistant Headteacher- Primary Phase

Permanent/Full Time

Salary L1-5

Start Date: September 2024

We are seeking to appoint a talented individual to join us as Assistant Headteacher at Helena Romanes School. This role is an exciting and unique opportunity and it is likely that you will initially be teaching an EYFS or KS1 class.

This is an exciting time to join the school. In October 2023, Ofsted judged the school to be GOOD in all areas. In September 2021, the school was designated as an all-through school for pupils aged 4-18 years and began admitting pupils into its primary phase. We will grow incrementally over the subsequent years and will eventually become a two-form entry primary phase. We are also working with the Department of Education to build a new, state-of-the-art school building on Stortford Road, Great Dunmow, which is set to open to the primary phase in 2025 and the secondary and sixth form phase in 2026.

The successful applicant will work alongside the Headteacher of the Primary Phase and the Trust’s primary leads to ensure that students at HRS receive an education of the highest quality. The successful candidate will be an excellent teacher and leader who has a proven record of success with the drive and experience to secure outstanding outcomes through creative and innovative approaches to learning.

We are looking for someone who:

·      has a significant track record of school improvement and curriculum innovation

·      has successful leadership experience

·      is an exemplary classroom practitioner and is able to model their outstanding practice

·      has high expectations of pupil achievement and behaviour

·      has excellent interpersonal, organisational and communication skills with the ability to lead, motivate, inspire and support colleagues

·      is committed to working in partnership with our parents and the local community

·      has a good sense of humour

Why choose our school?

•        We are a welcoming, friendly and caring school

•        We have enthusiastic children who love learning

•        We offer excellent opportunities for professional development and a bespoke programme of support and training based on individual needs

•        We are part of the highly successful Saffron Academy Trust

•        We have strong links with local primary schools

In order to apply for the position please write a letter (no more than two sides of A4) outlining how your skills and experience have prepared you for the role. The letter must be accompanied by an application form, which is available on the school website.

Full details of the vacancy (and further information about the school) can be found on the school website. To arrange a visit to the school, or for any additional information, please contact Bev Louth on 01371 876593, or by email at blouth@hrs.education. Visits to the school to meet with our staff and pupils are warmly welcomed and encouraged.

The Governing Body is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. It expects all staff and volunteers to share in this commitment. This post is subject to an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references.

The closing date for applications is Monday 13th May 2024. The school reserves the right to interview candidates before the published closing date.

We are a mixed 4 – 18 Academy with over 1200 pupils on roll. The school is situated in beautiful countryside, occupying approximately 35 acres just to the north of Great Dunmow.

The school was established in 1958 and is named in honour of the first Chair of Governors.

At Helena Romanes, we are ambitious for our pupils and we offer them a rich and varied curriculum. Our pupils develop the skills, knowledge and understanding that enables them to move successfully into higher education, apprenticeships, training or employment.

While academic achievement is of crucial importance, we also ensure that we focus effectively on developing our pupils’ personal, social and creative skills. Our aim is that pupils leave Helena Romanes as successful, confident and considerate young adults.

We are very proud of our pupils. They are superb ambassadors for our school when they represent us locally, nationally and internationally, participating in our many and varied extra-curricular activities.

At Helena Romanes, we have a large team of well-qualified, dedicated staff who focus on supporting pupils’ progress and well-being. We work closely with parents, carers and the wider community to ensure we provide a well-coordinated approach to our pupils’ learning and development.
