East Sussex college

It is an exciting time for Alternative Provision in East Sussex as we embark on a collaborative journey of systemic transformation and improvement.

Working in partnership with East Sussex County Council and SABDEN Multi Academy Trust, London South East Academies Trust (LSEAT) is seeking committed, dynamic and talented staff to join its team at College Central – which will become East Sussex Academy (part of LSEAT) later this year.

Our school provides education for 4–16-year-olds who have been excluded from mainstream settings across the county. Demand for this provision has increased dramatically since the pandemic, creating many challenges and resulting in a need for the school to significantly improve.

To secure a successful future for staff and pupils, a transfer process is now underway – we (LSEAT) are working closely with the existing providers to ensure a smooth transition.

This will include relocating the school to improved, purposeful buildings within the area, which are better suited to the needs of pupils. We are also focused on expanding and strengthening our staff teams across the school.

The Role

To work across the school to support students who are struggling to engage in learning, encouraging participation and promoting the highest expectations of behaviour. To promote a calm learning environment around the school building. Also, to work One to One or with small groups to support students with personalised and time limited intervention programmes.

Skills and Experience

The ideal candidate will have previous experience of working effectively with disaffected pupils who display emotional and behavioural difficulties. Also, to evidence progress and outcomes for those pupils in relation to academic and behavioural progress. To possess the ability to develop positive professional relationships with young people, to enable escalating situations to be diffused.

This post is considered to be a customer-facing position; as such it falls within scope of the Code of Practice on English language requirement for public sector workers. The school therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016 to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. The appropriate standards are set out in the person specification. These will be applied during the recruitment/selection and probationary stages.

As the Trust supports a number of children and vulnerable adults, all staff are exempt from Section 4(2) of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. Accordingly, all staff will be subject to an ‘Enhanced’ DBS (formerly CRB) check, along with a Children’s Barred List check if in regulated activity. Any offers of appointment may be withdrawn if these checks prove to be unsatisfactory to the Trust. Self-disclosure will be required as part of the recruitment process. If you fail to make a full disclosure or provide sight of your DBS certificate then your offer of employment is likely to be withdrawn. The Trust's DBS policy covers the recruitment of ex-offenders which is available upon request.

The school is committed to equality and diversity in employment practice and service delivery.
