Job overview

The British School Yangon

We are back in Yangon after a significant period of online learning and are recruiting outstanding teachers who have a dynamic, creative and adventurous approach to learning.

If you are passionate about your subject, working with children and making a real difference to the lives of others in a magical setting, BSY may well have the perfect opportunity for you. After a period of some disruption, life in Yangon has resumed a sense of normality and we have returned to on-campus learning in our superb, purpose-built, spacious and extensively resourced campus. Yangon is a wonderful city to be based in. It is beautifully green - both literally and on the FCDO travel advisory map. This means that the UK Government now allows for travel to Yangon.

We are a small school with undoubtedly the best facilities in the city and we offer a genuine and personalised approach to both our students’ learning and our teachers’ wellbeing and professional development. For those with an enthusiastic, collaborative, professional and adventurous approach to learning and to life, this may well be the perfect opportunity for you.Established in August 2014 BSY later became part of Nord Anglia Education and its global family of schools. We provide personalised, inspiring learning to students from EYFS- Year 13 and we link our learning approach and attitude to our four key values:

Adventure  Courage  Integrity  Kindness

Our purpose-built school boasts state-of-the-art facilities, including a covered sports field, a 25-metre pool, two gymnasiums, and a climbing wall. The Science Department has state-of-art science labs and we are proud of our 500-seat theatre and specialist music, drama and art rooms. All year groups have extensive play facilities and outdoor spaces.

About the role

We’ll look to you to promote high expectations for our students, designing learning activities that are aligned to our school’s Secondary curriculum and creating a learning culture where there are no limits to what can be achieved. You will foster an environment of respect within the classroom, facilitating learning through questioning and discussion. This role will have Art teaching at its core- up to A level along with an opportunity to have a wider impact on our students through possible teaching of creative and/or expressive arts. Therefore, although not essential, the ability / willingness to teach another creative/humanities-based subject would be a distinct advantage.

About you

We are looking for a versatile, flexible and adaptable Art teacher to put the creative arts at the heart of our school making it visible and far reaching through innovative and highly engaging initiatives and ideas. As someone able to adapt quickly to our fast-paced international environment, you will possess a university degree, a recognised teaching qualification, and considerable teaching experience. Committed and creative, you will be reflective on your own teaching and student outcomes, seeking out and implementing new ideas and innovative methods to raise the school’s level of achievement.

Keen to collaborate and share your specialist expertise, you will be a fitting ambassador for the school. You will communicate with confidence across diverse audiences and situations, using your expertise to build strong relationships with parents and students.
