Job overview

We seek to appoint a talented Deputy Director of Music to support the Director of Music in maintaining the standards of excellence in this established department.

Music plays an incredibly important role at Borough. All pupils have the chance to learn a musical instrument, through our innovative curriculum. Approximately 60% pursue that interest through peripatetic instrumental tuition. At GCSE, our cohorts are thriving; with 6 classes across KS4. With a Sixth Form opening in September 2024, this is an incredibly exciting time to join this beacon department.

You will be joining a wonderful community school where pupils develop their academic scholarship alongside their character. Our mission is simple – we want pupils to ‘Become their best at Borough’ in all aspects of their lives. We have the highest aspirations for each young person we work with and strive to help every child to fulfil their potential. We were delighted that this was confirmed in our recent OFSTED inspection in which we were judged as 'Good' with 'Outstanding' Leadership and Management in April 2024.

Our Academy values, which were created by our young people, speak to that. We expect our learners to become excellent ambassadors for their community, by working hard to achieve their aspirations, whilst becoming kind and resilient citizens.

Our location in the centre of the capital allows us to provide a unique take on the curriculum, making the most of partnerships with world leading organisations which enrich and enhance our offer. In all areas of the curriculum, we aim to ignite a spark which enables our young people to become scholars of their chosen subject disciplines.

About the role

The Deputy Director for Music will support the Director of Music to develop the curriculum delivery and design within the department. They will have a unique opportunity to lead ensemble groups, develop meaningful partnerships and join an established network of musicians as part of the wider Haberdashers' family.

The post holder will be committed to developing themselves as a leader. In return, they will receive bespoke training and support which enables them to thrive. They will be joining an established Creative Arts Faculty, recently recognised for their excellent work through the ArtsMark Gold award.

We hope that this brief information, alongside the recruitment details, encourages you to decide to apply to join us in our exciting current phase of development. Candidates are welcome to reach out for an informal conversation, to learn more about the post, by contacting the HR at boroughhr@habstrutsouth.org.uk.

Equality and Diversity:

We recognise the benefits of a diverse workforce. We are committed to eradicating discrimination in the workplace, becoming an employer of choice, for all staff to believe that they have a voice and be empowered to make a difference.

Safeguarding:

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and we expect all staff and volunteers to share in this commitment. This post falls within the scope of regulated activity. Appointment is subject to an enhanced DBS with list checks (and other relevant checks.) It is an offence to apply for the role if you are barred from engaging in regulated activity with children.
