Job overview

This is an exciting time to be part of one of Kent’s highest performing grammar schools which is also a community school. This post has become available due to the present post-holder being promoted to Principal of a Kent school.

DGGS is a selective girls’ grammar school set in the middle of the historic town of Dover. There are 675 girls in Key Stages 3 and 4 with a mixed 6th form of 210 students, and around 100 staff. The school provides an excellent education for students in Dover and the surrounding towns and villages.

Our students are bright, articulate, fun to be with, and, rightly, expect that their teachers will share and encourage their aspirations. As staff, we all offer students every possible opportunity beyond the classroom with a wide range of extra-curricular activities, support and pastoral care. We offer wellbeing support and aim to develop not just the academic abilities of our students but also the confidence, life skills, personal qualities and values to succeed in a fast moving and competitive world.

This year we have developed a new strapline for the school which encapsulates our vision for our students – Building Character, Fostering Respect and Achieving Success. As a school we are well known for the academic success of our students but also feel that character development is crucial to future success. We feel students should exhibit the character values of Mutual Respect, Intellectual Curiosity, Compassion, Courage and Moral Purpose, to flourish in school life and to succeed in their future.

This post requires an ambitious, innovative, hardworking individual who is committed to giving our students the confidence and knowledge to reach their highest potential. We are looking to appoint a new school leader who embodies the character values themselves and has a passion and excitement about the future of education in Dover.

We feel this is a unique opportunity. If you share our passion, energy, enthusiasm and determination to ensure the progress of our students, and wish to be part of leading a high

achieving school of professional colleagues within this close-knit environment, then we look forward to receiving your application.

If you would like to make an informal visit to the school before making an application, please contact Kim Corby on 01304 206625 to arrange a suitable time.

To apply, please download an application form from our website and return it with a letter of interest.

Closing date: Midday on Thursday, 2nd May 2019.

Dover Grammar School for Girls is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of our students so the interview will include questions relating to child protection. This post is exempt from the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and an enhanced DBS check will be required prior to appointment.
