Job overview

The post represents an exciting opportunity for a Director of Drama with the necessary vision and ambition to help the School offer a first rate academic education for boys. As a teacher at Wetherby you will have the opportunity to build your experience of working with a team of specialists and to develop the teaching of Drama in interesting and innovative ways. Teaching staff at Wetherby Senior School have experience of teaching in both the maintained and independent sectors and colleagues looking to move into independent education are warmly encouraged to apply.

The Drama Department

The Drama department has built a considerable reputation by both achieving excellent academic results at GCSE and producing a variety of performances that have challenged the pupils and audiences. The first play put on at the School was a promenade piece performed throughout the school building. Since then the Senior boys have performed Punch, a piece of physical theatre written by the current Director of Drama, the Mary Shelley novel (adapted by Nick Dear) Frankenstein, Don’t Drink the Water by Woody Allen, Beat the Devil by David Hare, Neville’s Island by Nick Dear and the tense action original script Bus Stop. There is also a Lower School play put on each year for boys in Years 7-9 and the inter-Trib Drama competition where each Trib (our name for a House) stages part of a play.

Academic results have been outstanding with pupils consistently achieving 7-9 at GCSE with 46% of the cohort achieving 9 in 2022.
