About the role

The Director will lead our character education and enrichment programme (the Haberdashers' Advantage) across the Trust as articulated in the ‘Individuals With Character’ element of our school improvement model. It includes careers education and guidance. They will work closely with schools leaders to creating, securing and maintaining a coherent and cohesive programme and curriculum from Early Years to Sixth Form. 

A key part of this role will be to work closely with the Haberdashers’ Company in developing a strong partnership and in maximising the opportunities that such a partnership offers.

Reporting

The Director will report directly to the Director of School Improvement (Primary).  Due to the nature of the role, work hours may vary. Some events are evening events. An ability to work flexibly would be an advantage.

In summary:

To oversee, lead and manage the Haberdashers Advantage programme for the Trust which is our character education and enrichment programme and includes careers information and guidance;

To develop an agreed policy and five year strategy for this programme which supports the Trust vision and objectives;

To develop the enrichment curriculum which supports the implementation of the programme and strategy;

Oversee the implementation of this curriculum.

In doing this, work in partnership with the Haberdashers’ Company in maximising the opportunities available – this includes supporting key events as well as the networking opportunities; you will be the main link with the Company in this area.

To work closely with leaders in schools in providing an effective enrichment curriculum locally which support the effective implementation of the Trust strategy; 

To build a network of professional support through partnerships with organisations such as the Brilliant Club which will enhance the programme and its’ delivery;

To manage the budget available for this programme, providing reports as needed;

To monitor the impact of the programme and review as required. Establish clear stakeholder assessments and a measuring system to evaluate success and impact of partnerships and key projects;

To support in the coordination and administration of events and activities to support their smooth running and implementation;

To work as a key lead within the Central Team of the Trust, supporting our vision and ethos;

Promote equality and fairness for all staff, ensure open and transparent recruitment and retention processes;

Take responsibility for one’s own development.

More specifically:

Business and careers development

To follow-up on introductions to corporate / business / institutional organisations as supplied by members of the Haberdashers’ Company and others;

To be the First-Point-of-Contact and relationship manager with these external businesses and companies;

To build links and connections between the Trust’s schools and the private business sector, providing opportunities for young people to learn about business and entrepreneurship and engage with external organisations to learn from their experience;

Research and apply for grants, scholarships, equipment, and money to assist the programme;

To engage and develop ongoing sustainable links with the external organisations;

To own and manage these relations and relationships and act as a bridge between the Trust and these businesses; 

To develop a programme of student directed projects paired with business provided mentors to see the project through to completion;

Alongside key leaders, organise activities including an annual Careers Conference, classroom visits, assemblies, workplace visits, work experience guest speakers, seminars and presentations to promote the education and business partnerships;

Guide and assist students in finding internships, skills training and careers development activities;

Arrange mentoring, job shadowing, apprenticeship and other on the job training opportunities with business partners; 

Arrange mock interviews and work preparation opportunities for students.

Events and Project Management

Take responsibility for Event Management where such projects and exercises can be used to position the Trust in the most appropriate and beneficial way; 

Use events to highlight the work of the staff, students and their multi-disciplinary successes and ambitions; 

Responsible for coordinating Trust collaborative events in order to highlight specialisms and the Haberdashers Advantage; 

Other

Lead on any relevant projects to support the above;

Working with other key leaders, ensure that websites and other promotional materials reflect the importance of this work and the activities being undertaken;

Keep up to date with the latest research into this area;

Maintain and grow the current Youth Advisory Board (YAB) so that it connects with student leadership in our schools and discussed relevant issues for the Trust, contributing to the strategic direction of it. This includes maintaining the meeting cycles, co ordinating the meetings and ensuring that these are of high calibre; 

To develop and manage speaking opportunities to support the Haberdashers Advantage programme and promote and encourage participation of all schools;

Research and apply for grants, scholarships, equipment and additional funds to assist the Haberdashers Advantage programme;

To act as the main contact for the Trust in organising events at the Haberdashers’ Company;

Promote equal opportunities and inclusion, addressing immediately should this fall short in their School;

Report any Safeguarding concerns in accordance with the Trust Safeguarding Policy;

Any other duties at the reasonable request of the CEO.
