Job overview

Aldwickbury School is looking for a creative, dynamic, and inspiring Director of Music who is motivated to stretch and challenge our most able musicians, ignite passion for music across our community and maintain a culture of inclusion, where music is enjoyed by all.

Who are we?

Aldwickbury is an independent day and flexi-boarding school for boys located in 20 acres of grounds on the outskirts of Harpenden in Hertfordshire.

We are a warm, welcoming school that understands how boys think, grow, and learn. At the heart of the Aldwickbury community lies our belief that pastoral care should form the bedrock for academic success. Every boy is nurtured and encouraged to try their best, embrace challenge and most importantly; be kind.

Our community is one where all staff should feel supported, where kindness connects us as ‘one team’. We work with passion to deliver an outstanding education for the boys.

Our culture is one of integrity, respect, and high ambition, underpinned by a growth mindset. We are encouraged through endeavour and self-reflection to develop, grow, and support each other’s wellbeing, and happiness.

The Music Department

The Music Department at Aldwickbury School is busy and thriving, and the successful candidate will build on the current strength of enthusiasm for music across the school. This year, 84 boys sang at the O2 Junior Voices Choir, our Junior and Senior choirs performed at the St Albans Abbey in our annual Carol service and the school set to embark on their first overseas music trip to Paris in June.

The successful candidate will ensure that music has a high profile in the school, teaching across the year groups and organising opportunities through a wide selection of co-curricular clubs.

Who are we looking for?

The ideal candidate will be passionate about their subject area and an excellent practitioner in the classroom, demonstrating a desire to ensure that the music curriculum is engaging and exciting.

The successful candidate will commit to embracing the school’s value and be able to display passion, energy, and imagination, with the courage to innovate where necessary, and an unwavering commitment to developing an interest in music for all boys throughout the school.

They will have the qualifications, experience, and personal attributes to manage the Music Department at Aldwickbury successfully.

A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and adhere to and comply with the School's Child Protection Policy statement at all times.

What will you be doing?

The position requires a sound understanding of Early Years, KS1, KS2, and KS3 music. The candidate should be able to ignite our boys’ passion, confidence, and curiosity, enjoying the opportunity to lead and develop practice in our school.

Applicants will also be expected to show that they have relevant educational leadership and management experience.

Apply today…. We can’t wait to hear from you.
