Job overview

Tes is supporting the appointment of higher level teaching assistants to coordinate the in-school care of a small class of pupils with complex needs, delivering cohesion through the school day and leading on behaviour management in the class.

The pupils will have subject specific teachers who move from class to class. As Group Coordinator you will be the consistent presence that the pupils need during the school day.

You will support pupils with very complex neurodiverse needs, including Autism (ASC) and/or Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, who require intensive nurturing and therapeutic approaches to enable them to gain positive learning and social outcomes.

Essential requirements to be successful in the role are: 

  • Substantial experience of managing neurodiverse young people, including those with ASC and/or SEMH, with an understanding of the implications for behaviour and communication.
  • Relevant Higher Level Teaching Assistant qualification (or willingness to work towards).
  • Resilient, committed and a hard worker - able to keep going in the face of adversity and never giving up.
  • Ability to work independently and in a task-focused way as directed or guided, according to set targets drawn from pupil’s Individual Education Plan.
  • Ability to work in a child focused way and support them and their families to have genuine voice and participation in meetings, decisions and choices with impact their own lives.
