Job overview

The Harris Federation is one of the largest and most successful Multi Academy Trusts in the UK. We pride ourselves on ensuring students are fully prepared for progression to university or their chosen career pathway.

We are looking for an experienced and extremely well organised leader to join our central Sixth Form team as the Head of Harris Experience and Academic Enrichment. The Harris Experience is already a well-established and highly successful programme, delivered across all of our secondary academies, which supports our most able students to prepare for Russell Group universities. You will oversee the running of this programme as well as providing the strategic vision to develop the programme in exciting and creative ways in the future.

The Harris Sixth Form is one of the largest in London, with 11 campuses and almost 2,000 Sixth Formers. It has two very different, but equally ambitious, routes that sixth formers can choose between: Sixth Form Academia, for students looking for a Russell Group university place or to study at other top universities worldwide; and Sixth Form Professional for those of our students wanting to study for credible qualifications that universities recognise and respect, or which lead directly to their careers of choice.

What we are looking for:

  • This job would suit someone with experience in sixth form/college education and events management, or a qualified teacher with experience of careers, universities and working with sixth form students.
  • The right candidate will have an absolute commitment to transforming the lives of young people and have a strong interest in Higher Education and current academic events, as well as being an outstanding communicator.
  • A minimum of a 2:1 degree (in any subject). It is highly desirable that applicants have attended a Russell Group university so that they have the necessary experience for the role. Candidates should also have a strong interest in the potential of university education for young people and be knowledgeable about all Russell Group universities, including Oxford and Cambridge.

Full details of the programmes can be found at www.harrisfederation.org.uk/64/harris-experience. This role will be based at the Harris Federation head office near East Croydon station; however, much of your time will be spent visiting our secondary academies in and around London.

Why join the Harris Federation?

The Harris Federation is a top performing Multi Academy Trust with an established track record in school improvement, and at the forefront of developing exceptional practitioners and senior leaders. The Federation provides a highly supportive network of Academies, Executives Leaders, Principals and mentors to help develop and progress your career.

We invest in our staff with coaching, mentoring, and a wide range of training programmes, delivered by our Teaching School Alliance. Two Harris academies hold Teaching School status and Harris also runs the highly successful London Thames Maths Hub, as well as working in partnership with a number of external organisations.

All of our primary and secondary academies are rated ‘Good’ or ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted and we are recognised for transforming the life chances of the children that we educate. The Harris Federation is a not-for-profit educational charity with almost 25 years of education experience in and around London. Our primary, secondary, all-through and sixth form academies have an international reputation for delivering a step change in education standards.

In joining a Harris Academy, you will be working with some of the country’s most exceptional teachers, support staff and leaders. There are frequent opportunities for internal exchange and promotion; our CPD is regularly described as Outstanding; and we have a package of staff benefits that rivals the most competitive of other professions.

Each Harris Academy is led and run by its senior leaders and has its own curriculum and way of doing things. What our Academies share, however, is a commitment to giving their children and teenagers an excellent education within a happy, caring and supportive environment.

There are Harris Academies in many different settings – inner city and suburban – but they are all within a maximum ninety minute commute from each other. This enables a highly collaborative structure, with on-call support from the Harris Federation.

You can find out more on our website (www.harrisfederation.org.uk) or by following us on Twitter (@HarrisFed).
