Job overview

Kingsbury Academy is an inclusive, caring and ambitious, school for primary age children with moderate to severe learning difficulties, autism and/or global developmental delay and all have EHCP’s. There are currently 85 on roll and with demand for places high, there is capacity to increase this number in the future. The school is now looking to appoint a new Headteacher with the ambition and skill set to build on its many strengths and take it forward to even greater levels of success.

Kingsbury Academy joined Thrive Education Partnership in 2019. TEP is a growing Multi-Academy Trust and in addition to Kingsbury Academy includes Calthorpe Academy, one of the largest special schools in the country with over 400 on roll. There is also an autism specific primary satellite provision (Belgravia) and an SEMH/AS resource base within a large secondary mainstream school (Waverley Secondary School).

In recent years the intake at Kingsbury Academy has seen an increasing number of children with a diagnosis of autism. With this change there has been a lot of excellent work to further develop the curriculum and provision at the school to ensure all of the children are able to flourish and be the best they can be. The new Headteacher will lead a highly committed and supportive staff team, to embed and further develop this provision to ensure all of the children are able to grow and develop in a safe, happy environment.

This is an exciting time to join Kingsbury Academy and TEP and will require an innovative and energetic Headteacher who shares their ambition and who will lead the school through the next phase of its journey. There will also be a commitment to supporting your personal development and you will receive fantastic support through practical coaching and mentoring. With the Trust very much in its infancy the new Headteacher will also play a key strategic role in shaping its future alongside other committed professional colleagues.

If you are an experienced senior leader, with experience of working in an SEN setting, this role offers you an outstanding opportunity to lead the development of the school. You must have a proven record of involvement in school improvement with a clear vision of excellence in special educational needs with regards to evidenced based approaches. Whilst displaying compassion you will work with colleagues to identify innovative ways to continually improve performance, together with the focussed leadership to ensure successful outcomes are reached. Your optimistic, can-do spirit will engage and inspire pupils, staff and parents/carers. Above all you will share the school’s commitment to delivering exceptional developmental and educational outcomes so that every pupil can be the best that they can be, and you will place their needs at the centre of all decision-making.
