Headteacher Primary (7/11078)

Sanquhar Primary School

Combined Roll: 207 (including Nursery)

HT07 £61,590

We are seeking to appoint a leader with vision and a passion for learning who will, along with the management team, lead learning at Sanquhar Primary School. This post offers an exciting opportunity to shape educational provision within a dynamic school community which has high aspirations for all. The school forms part of the Sanquhar Academy cluster with one other primary school. Sanquhar is very much at the centre of the community and works closely with all partner agencies.

Sanquhar Primary School is located north of Dumfries in the Upper Nithsdale area. The school also has a nursery and a learning centre, all of which enjoy very good facilities. Kilmarnock and Dumfries are relatively close, with vibrant communities and with all major services and amenities. The wider area boasts many local industries including agriculture, forestry and tourism. Sanquhar lies on the Southern Upland Way and provides easy access to the Crawick Multiverse, a stunning land art installation. Good housing is very affordable and the area is easy to reach by car and public transport, being on the main south west rail line. The area is also adjacent to both the East Ayrshire and South Lanarkshire council areas. The school is supported by an active Parent Council.

The Headteacher role is non-class committed and is supported by a two Principal Teachers and a Nursery Manager.

Dumfries and Galloway’s approach to Education looks to combine the traditional values, ethos and atmosphere of this unique corner of Scotland with fresh 21st Century thinking. We are seeking to appoint a leader with vision and a passion for learning who will lead learning within Sanquhar Primary School. The post represents an excellent opportunity to be innovative in developing our culture of sharing and learning. Our authority has been recognised as having a clear focus on building staff skills to improve learning and teaching, raise attainment and develop strong leadership at all levels.

Applicants will have proven leadership qualities and experience in primary education and be committed to very high standards of achievement.

A significant relocation package of up to £5000 is available to the successful candidate. Please see the attached removal expenses document for further information. Please follow the link to the Council’s Relocation Policy.

Applicants are required to be fully registered in primary education with the General Teaching Council of Scotland (GTCS), Clerwood House, 96 Clermiston Road, Edinburgh, EH12 6UT and be able to demonstrate that they have, through both experience and professional development, met the criteria in the Standard for Headship.

This post is considered as Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007.  Preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council.
