Job overview

Headteacher

Salary – L24-31 Outer London

Location – London

Start date – September 2024

Do you lead with care and compassion? Do you model the highest standards of professionalism every day; inspiring trust, respect, integrity and aspiration among staff and students in your current setting? Belmont Park, an SEMH Special School in Waltham Forest, is looking for an experienced leader or member of the SLT to build upon the legacy of our retiring headteacher, Bruce Roberts, and guide the school into a transitional period of careful change and growth to meet emerging needs in the community.

Our school currently serves the needs of up to 65 young people with varied life experiences and backgrounds, including those who have overcome adversity and faced significant challenges. It is our mission to help them engage with education through caring relationships that build trust and create a safe, supportive environment for students and staff. These young people need everyone in their school to believe in them and to nurture them through the range of barriers impacting their current engagement and potential outcomes.

Achieving this requires a hands-on headteacher able to lead by example and to relate to a diverse student and staff community, as well someone able to see the opportunities to maximise the use of our outstanding facilities to create innovative learning experiences tailored to individual needs. We measure progress on a holistic basis: supporting the staff to deliver excellent lessons and interventions with a focus on learning and achievement, but also looking beyond the test and understanding that, on difficult days, Belmont is as much a place of refuge as it is of learning. Indeed, these are often inseparable.

This information pack and our website will give you an initial sense of the school, but they cannot convey the unique and special ethos of Belmont Park, which can only be appreciated by coming to look around. We strongly encourage interested applicants to take advantage of our pre-visit sessions listed in the advertisement.

If you are passionate about supporting young people and excited by leading through change while working with a small, high calibre staff team, and a committed governing body, then we’d very much like to hear from you. We welcome candidates who can bring a range of perspectives, experiences, and cultural insights to our leadership team. We are dedicated to fostering an inclusive environment that celebrates the richness of our community and believe that diversity strengthens the school community, enriches the educational experience for our students, and prepares them for success in a diverse world. We therefore actively encourage applications from candidates of all backgrounds, including those traditionally underrepresented in educational leadership roles.

Closing date: Midnight Sunday 14th April 2024.

Shortlisting date: Monday 15th April 2024.

Interview dates: Monday 22nd and Tuesday 23rd April 2024.
