Job overview

Applications are invited for the Interim Headship of Dallington School, in Clerkenwell (Islington, London.)

This is initially an interim role with the potential to become permanent for the right candidate.

Dallington is a well-established, creative, family-run day school for children aged 3 to 11 in the heart of London, nurturing independent, curious, resilient learners.

Start date: January 2022 with a negotiable handover period during the Autumn term 2021.

 The Opportunity

This is a rare and wonderful opportunity for an exceptional school leader who can truly inspire magical education. Whilst that may sound trite, it is our reality.  If you are a box ticker or have been worn down in your current job, please don’t apply.

Our school has a strong and successful ethos which enables every child to discover, explore, develop and enjoy their own interests, passions and abilities.  Staff nurture, support and encourage, whilst parents enthuse about the education and care their children enjoy.  We celebrate childhood, allowing our children to flourish at their own pace and enjoy the successes that brings.

Our next Head will continue to drive excellence in teaching and learning, provide amazing learning experiences for all children, embrace our families and be the champion of the school and its values.

Please submit your CV with a covering letter and our application form (available on our website under ‘Vacancies’) to Angela Forsyth, Lead Consultant.

About Dallington School

The original and only alternative, progressive family-run school in the heart of London, welcoming children from 3 to 11.

'The joy and reward of lifelong learning takes time.  That time is called childhood, spent with people who understand and value it, in a stimulating environment that promotes it.'

Mogg Hercules MBE

These are the words of our founder, and we are proud to uphold her philosophy and aims to this day.

Dallington School was founded in1978 to offer an alternative, holistic and progressive education to the mainstream on offer at the time. Our philosophy and ideas focus on nurturing children´s development and broadening their learning experiences; encouraging children to become independent and curious learners; we encourage children to learn to think for themselves and we give them the opportunities to explore their interests, develop exceptional collaborative and social skills and debate intelligently. Dallington children are kind, self-aware and aware of others. We want school to be fun; for children to love coming to school; for every day to be a surprise, and most of all for children to feel that they are valued, being listened to and that their contribution is valid.

Situated in Clerkenwell, a stone’s throw from the City of London, St Paul’s and the Barbican, Dallington prides itself on being very different from many independent day schools.  Offering a vibrant oasis of creativity, offering a rich and diverse curriculum, we celebrate childhood, embrace the individuality of every child and allow our children to flourish at their own pace in a relaxed and supportive 'family' environment.  We offer a child-centred, creative, holistic and ambitious experience, designed to develop the whole, unique child and to prepare them for their onward educational journey.
