Belmont School is an independent day, flexi and weekly boarding school for boys and girls aged 3 to 16.  Situated close to the town of Dorking in the Surrey Hills, Belmont enjoys a 65-acre rural site enabling pupils to enjoy a vibrant, creative, and wholesome school environment.  

The School comprises the Early Years (Pre-Reception and Reception), Prep School (Years 1 to 6) and Senior School (Year 7 upwards).  Classes rarely exceed 16 pupils in the Prep School and 20 in the Senior School.  

We are seeking a KS2 teacher to join our vibrant and energetic team. The successful candidate will have the skills to teach across the primary age range, taking responsibility for the core teaching in one KS2 class whilst teaching other lessons too. Candidates will inspire high standards in the classroom, have a warm approach, show initiative, and be prepared to play a full part in School life, including involvement in co-curricular activities. 

The school day runs from 8.00am to 4.30pm, Monday to Friday with weekly or flexible boarding available from Sunday evening to Friday evening.  All staff are required to undertake supervisory duties and to run one extra-curricular activity after school every week.  The successful applicant must be prepared to enter fully into the life of this busy and vibrant school.

Teaching and Learning

• Teach a KS2 class with other teaching responsibilities across the prep age range.  For PE, Ballet, French, Performing and Visual Arts a specialist member of staff usually will lead the lesson and you may be required to assist.

• Identify and adopt the most effective teaching approaches for your pupils and keep abreast of contemporary educational issues.

• Monitor teaching and learning activities in the classroom, take responsibility for a classroom and ensure that it remains a facility conducive to high quality education.

• Taking direct pastoral responsibility for your pupils liaising with parents as required and keeping written records using the Daybook.

• Prepare planning documentation in keeping with departmental policies.

• Utilise ICT in their teaching to develop cross-curricular links and to teach online if required to do so.

• Attend the 08.00am staff briefing every day and contribute as appropriate.


Recording and Assessment

• Set targets for raising achievement and developing the whole child, demonstrating a commitment to each individual.

• Maintain appropriate class attendance and assessment records appropriate for the age range of the children in line with school policies.

• Produce written reports for parents using the database management system, and in line with the academic calendar.

• Attend face to face or online parents’ meetings in line with the academic calendar.

• Provide information as requested by members of the senior management team.


Standards and Quality Assurance

• Support the aims and ethos of the school, contribute to its inclusive culture and uphold fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance for all.

• Follow the Staff Code of Conduct.

• Set a good example in terms of attendance, dress, punctuality, and meeting deadlines.

• Uphold all the school’s policies, most notably in respect of safeguarding, health and safety, behaviour and discipline, anti-bullying, equality, diversity, and inclusion.

• Participate in INSET and undertake appropriate further training (and pass relevant information on to colleagues) as part of the professional development programme.

• Attend team and staff meetings as required including the daily 8.00am staff briefing.

• Communicate with all stakeholders in School effectively both in written and oral form.

• Behave in a professional and courteous manner at all times.


Other Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist with all general school activities for the Early Years as required (e.g. performances, outings, inter-house events, assemblies).

• Liaise with colleagues with regard to resource management.

• Work as part of the staff team and be an active member of the Common Room.

• Share any specific areas of expertise, which would be beneficial towards the running, or development of the school.  Expertise in areas such as (but not exclusively) Forest School, Music, Art, French or Sport could be an advantage in the application process.

• To participate in the general day to day activities of the school as a whole and undertake a share of the staff duties.   All staff are expected to attend assemblies, departmental and staff meetings, committee meetings if appropriate, Parents’ evenings, Open Days and Training days as required by the Headmistress.
