Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic, inspiring and professional teacher who can teach a range of subjects at Key Stage 2. A sense of humour and capability to be a committed team member are essential requirements. This is a full-time position, term time only, from September 2023 for the academic year 2023-2024.

Year 3 & 4 brings an additional lesson each day and a broader curriculum. With two classes per year group, the boys are predominantly taught by their class teachers in our award winning Jubilee Building, as well as making best use of our excellent specialist teaching and learning facilities. Classrooms are spacious and well-resourced; there is also ample indoor and outdoor break out space adjacent to the classrooms for extending the learning experience.

The curriculum encompasses English, Mathematics (adopting a Singapore Maths style approach to teaching and learning), Science, History, Geography, Religious Studies and PSHE with the addition of specialist teaching for Art, Computing, Design Technology, Drama, Modern Foreign Languages (French and Spanish), Music, PE & Games, and Swimming.  The breadth and challenge of the curriculum makes for a purposeful programme that is well supported by co-curricular activities.  The boys are set into two groups for English and Maths from mid-way through Year 4 onwards.

The boys increasingly use technology to enhance their learning experience. In Year 4 the boys are given an iPad to use, which will be their own personal learning companion as they move up the school. In this way, they can use specific learning apps and software to enrich their understanding and communication skills. The boys learn to share and collaborate through paired and group work, building positive relationships and developing self-confidence.

Additionally, all the boys have opportunities to join in the extra-curricular activities offered, to play in sporting fixtures against other schools and perform publicly in drama and music.

Centred around a Grade II Listed Farmhouse, the school comprises a mix of traditional and modern buildings, with the latest, the RIBA award-winning Jubilee Building housing the Pre-Prep and Junior School, having been completed in September 2015. Two classes of twenty boys in each of Years 3 & 4 enjoy their own floor of the Jubilee Building, with a large break-out area, and outside learning areas. The majority of lessons take place in the boys’ form rooms, but they also benefit from the use of the School’s other buildings and outside areas which house the Dining Room, Sports facilities including swimming pool, gymnasium and astro turf, and the Library.

Davenies has over 80 employees consisting of full and part time qualified teachers and teaching support staff, and supported by a team of office staff, a site team led by the Facilities Manager, and a dedicated School Nurse. Catering, cleaning and IT support are outsourced, with external contract staff working alongside the School to provide term-time services. In addition, the School hosts a range of visiting music, LAMDA and extra-curricular activity tutors.
