Job overview
'Excellence In Everything'
Lead Practitioner in Science
Cranbourne is a good school with a committed staff and student body, a friendly and supportive atmosphere and is rapidly moving towards “excellence in everything”. Cranbourne has a commitment to improving teaching and achievement (last year, we had some of the best GCSE attainment in the local area) and we encourage staff to work with a high degree of independence and creativity. The Science Department is well resourced and housed in modern, specialist labs, with dedicated office space, spread over two floors.
We are looking to appoint a passionate Lead Practitioner in Science who would enjoy being part of a forward thinking and well qualified Science Department.
The successful candidate will proactively participate in the improvement of specialist teaching and learning of Science. The post supports the Head of Science in developing and embedding good teaching in Science at Cranbourne. We already have well developed practice which includes key performance indicators at KS3 and KS4, assessment practices to ensure that all students keep up; a cohesive programme of out of school learning and opportunities to inspire and engage students in the study of Science in the widest sense. The team has recently grown with the addition of an excellent Second in Department, a new Senior Technician and two Assistants.
At Cranbourne we are looking for hardworking, ambitious and dynamic staff committed to excellence. You will be a self-motivated and reflective teacher who is keen to develop further, have strong interpersonal skills and be an excellent team player.
Our teachers are offered a good range of CPL opportunities, from collaborative twilights, to conferences, staff book groups and learning lunches. We offer an excellent induction programme, an exciting learning and teaching environment and first-class on-going professional learning opportunities to further enhance your career.
Visits to the College are warmly welcomed.
Cranbourne Business and Enterprise College and Hampshire County Council are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We will ensure that all our recruitment and selection practices reflect this commitment. All successful candidates will be subject to Disclosure and Barring Service checks along with other relevant employment checks.

About Cranbourne
Cranbourne is a welcoming 11-16 comprehensive school in the heart of Basingstoke.
The school is situated in a leafy suburb, close to the town centre on a large green site, with excellent facilities, including extensive playing fields, specialist arts, media and design workshops as well as a large indoor swimming pool. We also benefit from specialist vocational teaching in hair, beauty and computer science. The school’s core purpose is to meet the needs of each individual student. We are proud of our specialist unit for the teaching of students with dyslexia.
The college aims to provide every student with a positive learning experience. Excellent teaching and great out of lesson opportunities are key priorities. We aim for a happy environment where children feel secure to challenge themselves and are confident to try new experiences. The school has a strong year based team of tutors and two full time pastoral staff for each year group. Our curriculum (choice of subjects) is diverse, because we would like students to play to their strengths and follow their interests, as well as giving a good grounding in the national curriculum. It is important to us that students achieve well here so that they make the best future choices at the end of five years, hence our strong focus on excellent exam results and close links with Queen Mary’s College and BCOT.
