Job overview

LEAD PRACTITIONER – SCIENCE

Position to commence: 20 August 2018

Salary: £39,413 - £47,821 per annum (L1 - L9 equivalent)

The JCB Academy was established in September 2010, the first of a brand new kind of school in the UK, with a focus on delivering high-quality engineering and business education.

Since opening we have been consistently successful - our first Ofsted inspection, in May 2014, recognised us as a “Good” school with “outstanding” features, including progress in mathematics, engineering and vocational courses and the dedication to keeping learners safe and secure. Learner numbers are growing - we have been oversubscribed every year, including for entry this September. Currently we cater for approximately 580 full time learners aged 14-18 as well as approximately 300 learners aged 16+ following apprenticeships. We have exciting plans to expand further due to the demand for places; this will include Y9 for the first time from September 2018.

We are now looking for a dynamic and inspirational individual to develop teaching and learning strategies within the science team and across the whole academy. This is a fantastic opportunity to work in partnership with some of the biggest names in engineering and design.

At KS4, learners follow an integrated curriculum which is delivered through a series of engineering/business challenges in partnership with specialist teams from our challenge partners including JCB, Harper Adams University, HSBC, KPMG, National Grid, Network Rail, Toyota, Rolls‑Royce, Bosch Rexroth and Parker.  Biology, chemistry and physics are all offered at A level.,

If successful, you will:

· Set high expectations and foster a culture of continuous improvement.

· Work collaboratively with the other Science teachers to develop and deliver an engaging science curriculum that sits within the challenge cycles.

· Benefit from working with small class sizes, outstanding science lab facilities and cutting edge ICT.

· Have access to superb professional development and a competitive salary.

· Work in a supportive environment with professionals who are down-to-earth and committed to the aims of the academy.

If you are a qualified Science Teacher able to demonstrate high quality teaching we would be keen to hear from you. We welcome applications from current Lead Practitioners and teachers who are looking for a new challenge and the opportunity to work in a unique environment with fantastic facilities. You must have a passion for developing engineers of the future

The JCB Academy is a school specialising in business and engineering. We teach learners from Y9 to Sixth Form and provide Intermediate (L2) and Advanced (L3) apprenticeship programmes as well as Business and Engineering T-Levels which provide additional choices post-GCSE.

Our approach pairs classroom learning with practical application, and we have an impressive range of world-class industry partners who help with that. JCB, of course, but also including Bosch Rexroth, Harper Adams University, Rolls-Royce and Toyota Motor Manufacturing. Names that can turn heads with learners and lock in their learning engagement.

We aim to change lives by developing the engineers and business leaders of the future. We do this by:

· Working closely with our world-leading industrial partners.

· Having dedicated staff who inspire our learners.

· Ensuring every learner has a meaningful destination.

We work tirelessly to ensure that those entrusted into our care have every chance to achieve success. It is important that learners achieve well academically to ensure that they can compete in the marketplace for higher education places and employment. It is also important that we work to develop those core skills essential for success, not just in the world of work but also in life. The JCB Academy looks to ensure that all learning enables young people to develop:

· Can do/positive attitudes.

· The desire to achieve through actions.

· Creative and enterprising behaviours.

· A willingness to learn in the pursuit of technical and academic excellence.

· Team work and leadership capability.

We have high expectations of each and every learner who will join us. Great store is placed upon self-discipline, good behaviour, uniform, teamwork and co-operation. These traditional values are at the heart of all we undertake at The JCB Academy.

We offer first class career development, excellent CPD, wonderful learners, an innovative education vision, great links to industry and higher education and an opportunity to work in a unique environment with fantastic facilities. There are also plenty of opportunities for staff to organise exciting trips and activities linked to our curriculum, to get involved in extra-curricular enrichment days and to participate in residential trips both in the UK and overseas.

Our staff benefits package includes an Employee Assistance Programme (including financial guidance, legal enquiries, support for issues at home and at work), interest free financing through BHN Extras to buy the latest technology through salary deductions, discounted shopping with over 85 big-name retailers and discounted gift cards and eGifts, access to JCB’s dental scheme (monthly fee), free access to the academy’s gym, free on-site parking, Cycle scheme and paid time off for significant birthdays.
