Job overview

Trinity Academy Grammar

Lead Teacher with Responsibilities for SEND

Leadership L1 – L8 (£47,185 - £56,082)

Trinity Academy Grammar is an ambitious and inclusive 11-16 school that, for the first time in the school’s history, is oversubscribed with a waiting list from September 2023.  At the start of this academic year, we had over 1,000 students on roll; having grown this number from 650 when we first started since becoming part of the Trinity Multi-Academy Trust.

Trinity Academy Grammar has had a plethora of successes.  In February 2023 Ofsted graded the academy as good with outstanding features in leadership and personal development.  This followed being awarded the World Class School mark in 2021.  These transformational changes mean that it is an exciting time to join the academy, we are incredibly proud of our successes, and we are looking for the best people to work alongside our already committed team to continue our journey.

We are now looking to appoint a Lead Teacher for SEND to continue our transformation.  This is a unique and exciting opportunity to shape and develop pedagogy in your own subject area, but also to work alongside a well-researched, creative, strategic and highly regarded Teaching and Learning Team to develop pedagogical practice across the academy.

We have recently had an uplift in our SEND funding and will open a HUB style provision that will work in tandem with your ASD base to give a small cohort of year seven students a flying start. It is envisaged that the successful candidate will teach some of their allocation within the HUB but this will be supplemented by additional teaching some other areas of school.  This demonstrates our approach to SEND in always looking for our provision to be integrated into everything we do.  Once appointed the successful candidate will join a strong staffing contingent:

  • Line Management of SEND by the Vice Principal
  • SENCo
  • Deputy SENCo
  • TLR holder with SEND responsibilities
  • A separate SEMH school lead by an Assistant Principal who works alongside a host of additional staff
  • A host of support staff positions ranging from Learning Mentor, Specialist Teaching Assistants and Teaching Assistants

If you feel you are not quite ready to be a Lead Teacher, we would still be interested in hearing from you.  We have a great track record of developing leadership in our staff.  The position of associate lead teacher could be available for the right candidate.  This position carries a TLR and would be suitable for a person who has the potential to be a lead teacher within 2 years of taking up this position.

Trinity MAT is a high performing and successful cross-phase trust.  The trust also collaborates extensively with schools across the country through the Trinity Institute of Education, West Yorkshire Maths Hub and White Rose Education initiatives.  Through this support and our world class CPD offer you will receive professional development like no other including directly from the Principal and other key leaders within the MAT.

If you would like to visit the academy or arrange a conversation with the Principal, please contact kball@grammar.trinitymat.org

What can we offer you?

  • An opportunity to be involved in the transformation of Trinity Academy Grammar
  • Full support from a dedicated team of senior leaders and a large pastoral team
  • A first class behaviour for learning system
  • Excellent teaching resources
  • Career progression and cross-trust working
  • An excellent CPD package for all staff, including a further comprehensive programme of professional development provided through the Trinity Institute of Education and West Yorkshire Maths Hub
  • A range of staff benefits, including Employee Assistance Program, Cycle to Work scheme, Electric Car scheme and reduced cost health cover

If you would like to speak in confidence about this position, please contact Kylie Ball KBall@grammar.trinitymat.org and arrange a conversation with Charlie Johnson Executive Principal.

Start date: September 2024

Closing date: 13 May 2024

Interviews: TBC

The Trinity MAT were first approached to work with the then Sowerby Bridge High School, when it had been graded as inadequate by Ofsted and had been ranked in the bottom 15% of all schools nationally.

After joining the MAT in 2018 the progress made has been outstanding. The academy has improved its Progress 8 outcome by 0.92 and the performance puts us comfortably in the top 1% of most improved schools in the country.

In September 2021 we will be adopting the new name of Trinity Academy Grammar to better communicate our identity, high standards and aspirations for our students. We have chosen a name which truly reflects our grammar school heritage, and to better showcase our core values of Empathy, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility, as we continue to build on this legacy through our outstanding achievements and passion to help our students reach their full potential.

It is a very exciting time to be considering joining Trinity Academy Grammar.  We can offer candidates the opportunity to work in partnership with the Principal and the senior leadership team, teachers in the school and other professionals across the trust (including the Teaching School and West Yorkshire Maths Hub).

The working environment is supported by committed, hardworking and supportive colleagues who are focused on improving outcomes for our students. Comprehensive pastoral systems are embedded to ensure the behaviour of students is outstanding and they are happy and supported in their learning.

As an academy we have high expectations of staff, we expect staff to challenge our students and themselves. We set high standards and aim to display these in all that we do. Working for Trinity Academy Sowerby Bridge is rewarding, we can offer a fantastic environment, excellent CPD programmes and a range of opportunities to progress. These ambitions are shared across all schools within the trust.
