Kowloon Junior School is looking for an enthusiastic, experienced and exemplary teacher to join our Learning Enhancement Team in 2024/2025. This position will be a full-time one-year finite contract and renewable upon sufficient school budget, satisfactory performance and mutual agreement. 

While our goal is to employ staff who are confident and comfortable working with groups of children across the primary phase and passionate about learning to achieve our vision of “Success for Every Child”, the main role of the Learning Enhancement Teacher is to maximise student learning and development through the planning, preparation and teaching of programmes which meet students’ individual learning needs and achieve specific student outcomes. Working closely with the Head of Learning Enhancement and the team, the teacher assumes day-to-day responsibility for the provision made for individual children with identified learning needs, working closely with students, teachers, parents, the ESF and other agencies. 

Main Accountabilities

Teaching and Assessment

  • Planning lessons and sequences of lessons to meet student’s individual learning needs and to ensure student’s progression
  • Using a range of appropriate strategies for teaching and learning and classroom management
  • Maintain a well-organised and stimulating learning environment
  • Use technology to effectively enhance learning for students of differing needs
  • Make accurate and productive use of assessment for pupils with a range of learning needs
  • Providing clear and constructive advice to students and their parents and caregivers

Wider professional roles

  • Planning and engaging in professional learning activities that support school and systematic priorities
  • Taking responsibility for own professional development and using the outcomes to improve teaching and students’ learning
  • Making an active contribution to the policies and aspirations of the school regarding Inclusion
  • Lead a team of Educational Assistants that support meeting the needs of students with differing learning needs
  • Collaborating with external professionals and other members of the school community

Additional responsibilities may include

  • Attend and contribute to meetings, discussions and management systems necessary to
  • coordinate the ongoing work and improvement of the school in terms of meeting pupils’ learning needs
  • Assisting year level co-ordinators, curriculum co-ordinators, student management co-ordinators, principal and vice principal with the performance of specific functions
  • Supervising a range of student activities including support and welfare programmes

Requirements

Essential Criteria

  • Qualified teacher status
  • Exemplary classroom practitioner
  • Experience of working with students with a range of learning needs
  • Sound knowledge of writing IEPs and support plans
  • Committed to supporting children’s individual needs 

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience in a similar role working in a mainstream and/or special school.
  • Experience with more than one curriculum model
  • Experience in the PYP IB framework will be an advantage
  • International and home teaching experience

Other Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education, or
  • Bachelor's Degree in any subjects with PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate of Education), or equivalent
  • Relevant teaching experience within a recognised educational organisation
