Birkdale High School is a popular and successful all-boys 11-16 comprehensive Academy with an excellent reputation, outstanding pastoral care and consistently above national average academic results.

The school has seen its numbers rise over the last few years and is oversubscribed.

At Birkdale we aim to be leaders in the education of boys and this starts with a clear focus on developing effective teaching pedagogy and not engaging in educational fads or gimmicks.

Our Teaching and Learning development is driven by a focus on cognitive science and

educational research and our quality assurance of teaching is developmental rather than

judgemental. Our staff are given the space and support to make positive changes to their

practice in a risk-free environment; we share best practice, support and challenge each other and are eager to accept our professional obligation to improve methods of embedding the knowledge our boys need.

The Governors are seeking to appoint a dynamic and committed person to join our SEND

The successful candidate will work within the SEND department supporting individual pupils including those on the autistic spectrum or with complex social and emotional needs.

The successful candidate is required to start as soon as possible. The appointment is permanent. Flexible working may be considered

Ofsted report

“Most recent academy progress data indicate that there will be further significant improvement at GCSE five A* to C including English and mathematics this year. Boys are making at least good progress and this was confirmed during the inspection through the observations of lessons and scrutiny of current work. Some boys, particularly the more able, are making outstanding progress.”
