Job overview
South Pennine Academies are extremely excited to advertise this rare opportunity for a fantastic individual to work across primary and secondary schools in our Trust. This person will strategically lead, quality assure and measure the impact of a Trust-wide project that will improve the outcomes for all learners in maths, but in particular those from disadvantaged backgrounds.
South Pennine Academies has been successful in securing funding from the Department for Education’s second round of Strategic School Improvement Fund bids. The project was borne out of a common need across participating schools in Oldham and Kirklees to improve outcomes in maths for disadvantaged students.
The title of our bid was:
Diminishing the differences for disadvantaged students in mathematics; developing teachers' and teaching assistants' subject knowledge and pedagogy alongside the strengthening of homeschool partnerships.
Progress and attainment in maths in the participating schools at both KS2 and 4 are below national average and there is a gap between disadvantaged and non-disadvantaged students' performance. The project is aimed at students currently in years 2, 4 and 7 and will ensure a sustainable and consistent approach to the teaching of mathematics and, in turn, a successful transition into KS2, and ultimately KS3.
The improved teaching and learning as a result of high-quality professional development, alongside greater parental engagement, will support improved outcomes at both KS2 and 4 for all participating students.
If you think this could be an ideal role for you we look forward to receiving your application.

Welcome to the South Pennine Academies
At South Pennine Academies, we want every student to have the best possible chance to achieve in school. Stronger partnerships with families, local businesses, community agencies and universities are essential as we focus on improving student outcomes.
South Pennine Academies is an exempt charity and a not for profit organisation. The Trust operates as a multi academy trust and in that respect is the employer across all the academies in the partnership. A multi Academy trust is simply a number of academies who agree to work together within an overarching trust body with a remit to co-ordinate matters of common interest referred collectively by the Governing Bodies.
South Pennine Academies has been developed to allow Moor End Academy to work formally in partnership with other academies, pre-schools and other organisations.
South Pennine Academies is also recognised by the DfE as an Academy Sponsor. Sponsors are held accountable for improving the performance of their schools and this involves taking responsibility for their performance and financial arrangements.
The trust is led by Lynda Johnson who is the Chief Executive Officer and Accounting Officer for the trust. She has a strong track record in school improvement supporting schools across a number of local authorities.
The Trust also operates Huddersfield Horizon SCITT, taking an increasing number of trainees, based at our new Head Office premises in Elland, West Yorkshire.
