Pastoral Care Leader

37 hours a week, term time only plus 4 weeks

John Henry Newman Catholic College is an oversubscribed and high performing 11-19 College. The College serves an area of high economic deprivation and the learning community of Governors, staff and students thrive on the opportunity to truly make a positive difference to the young people we serve.

An opportunity to join our exciting community

John Henry Newman Catholic College strives to be at the forefront of school improvement and innovation and invests heavily in the creation of a learning community where we all have the responsibility to learn from others and to contribute to the professional development of our colleagues. It is through this collaborative culture that together we can break down barriers to learning and support our students to gain the competitive edge over other applicants to leading universities, prestigious apprenticeships and the subsequent world of work.

An exciting opportunity has become available for the post of Pastoral Care Leader at John Henry Newman Catholic College. We’re looking for a talented individual to help foster a caring and supportive learning environment for our young people. Your experience of pastoral care will place our learners’ welfare at the heart of the school. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to continue to develop professionally in a well led and supportive environment.

This is a vital, high profile role, with the post-holder being required to work with colleagues from across the College as well as working directly with colleagues from a number of external agencies. The right candidate would also have immediate opportunities to develop their capacity to work directly with pupils and with parents in addressing matters relating to safeguarding, behaviour and the provision of special educational needs, as well as matters relating to mental health. The right candidate does not need to be an expert in these fields, but they do need to demonstrate a definite interest in learning about them alongside a determination to make sure every child has access to the most effective provision which meets their unique needs.

The person in this role will work directly with the senior and middle leaders responsible for pastoral care in the College and they will play a crucial role in the effective implementation of a number of vital processes. Excellent standards of organisation and prioritisation will be required, as will an ability to work in a calm and orderly manner at all times. Often, this work will require resilience and adaptability as the post-holder is required to respond to the immediate needs of a young person, their family or the colleagues working to support them.

Your attendance will be required for calendared evening events, such as, open evenings, academic review days, Year 6 transition/induction evenings and any other directed events.

Develop your passion

The successful candidate will support students to set the highest expectations and to make outstanding progress. This post offers the prospect to make a significant impact and help shape and develop the Student Services department for the future. The Pastoral Care Leader will have the motivation and energy to inspire young people and a determination to never settle for second best.

The College Governors are proud of what John Henry Newman Catholic College has achieved to date and are keen to appoint someone who wholeheartedly shares their ambition and commitment to the mission of the College.
