Job overview

The Q1E Trust is now seeking excellent teachers for September 2023.

We believe that “the quality of an education system cannot exceed the quality of its teachers” (McKinsey 2007). The recruitment, retention and development of high quality teachers is our highest priority.

We have four London primary schools:

  • The Alton Primary School, with approximately 200 pupils on a large site in Roehampton, bordering beautiful Richmond Park. The Alton also has a small resource base for pupils with additional needs. Ofsted say: "Leaders and staff support every pupil to reach their full potential. Staff benefit from regular training to develop their expertise."

  • Belleville Primary School, a large outstanding school with over 900 pupils and a history of excellent provision, across two sites in Clapham. Ofsted say: "Pupils thrive at Belleville.  Leaders have planned a highly ambitious curriculum. Staff are proud to work at Belleville. They receive extensive professional development and are appreciative of this."

  • Belleville Wix Academy, a unique bi-cultural school with outstanding early years, with approximately 330 children, one third of whom are taught through an English/French bilingual stream . Pupils enjoy coming to school. Ofsted say: "An outstanding start in the early years prepares children exceptionally well. Provision for reading and mathematics is exceptionally strong. Staff across the trust’s four schools work together to plan their teaching."

  • Churchfields Primary School, with approximately 500 children on its extensive site in Beckenham. Ofsted say: "There is evidence that the school could be judged outstanding. A well-planned and organised curriculum has been produced to ensure all learners maximise their full potential. Staff are overwhelmingly positive about leaders’ support with their workload. This includes centralised planning and considerable professional development from the trust."

Our schools are linked together by a relentless drive for improvement, excellence and equality. Together we provide a high quality education for the children we serve.

Q1E provides clear structures, excellent resources and outstanding professional development for staff. All teachers new to the Trust receive pre-induction training before starting in post. For Early Career Teachers, this means three weeks of paid training in July once you have finished your teacher training. We are an outward facing trust and we believe in learning from the best schools and systems - you will have lots of opportunity to watch outstanding practice and get involved in wider projects across our dynamic Trust.

Please read the attached information pack for more information about the fantastic support and opportunities we offer, as well as the job description and person specification.

If you share our collaborative ethos and our drive to provide an excellent quality first education for all, we really hope to hear from you.

We have single application form which enables you to indicate which of our schools you are interested in. Please submit your completed application and equal opportunites monitoring forms by email to recruitment@q1e.org.uk by 9am on Monday 6th February. This is our first application round for September 2023 teaching roles. Applications will be reviewed as they come in, so early applications are strongly encouraged.

The Trust has four diverse schools linked together by a relentless drive for excellence and equality.  Belleville Primary School, The Alton Primary School, Belleville Wix Academy and Churchfields Primary School.

The principle “united and unique” is central to our ethos. By this we mean our schools are united where it is beneficial, but they retain their unique nature. Being part of a larger organisation gives the schools many advantages, particularly around sharing knowledge, practice and resources. It also provides security from financial pressures and the rapid speed of change within the system.

Another of our core principles is the belief that “the quality of an education system (or school) cannot exceed the quality of its teachers” (McKinsey 2007). This lies at the centre of what we do and how we operate.  Together we provide a high quality education for the children we serve.    We aspire to providing all those who join us with excellent working conditions and career prospects.

The Q1E Trust provides clear structures, excellent resources and outstanding professional development for staff. Each school provides high quality support and guidance for staff at all levels, enhanced by additional support from the Trust’s specialists in English, Maths, Inclusion and other core areas. The strong relationship between our schools and their leaders supports joint practice development and targeted school-to-school support.

Q1E also provides an extensive programme of training and professional development through the Belleville Teaching School and South West London Maths Hub, which sit within the Trust. We deliver our own Initial Teacher Training, and offer high quality development programmes for NQTs, recently qualified teachers, middle leaders, subject leaders, SENCO's, deputy heads and headteachers. All staff joining the Trust will receive an extensive programme of induction and training. NQTs have a three week programme of induction as soon as they have finished teacher training.

Career development opportunities are excellent within individual schools, across the Trust or working for the Trust’s central team. New leadership roles are advertised within the Trust in the first instance, and we often offer secondment opportunities for staff who are interested in developing their skills in a different area.

We are very outward-facing, with strong links with outstanding schools nationally and internationally. A keen focus on learning from the best enables us to offer broader opportunities for teachers at all stages of their careers, such as undertaking research and development projects. For example, we are at the cutting edge of maths development and are one of the national leaders in the teaching of Singapore-style mathematics. Members of our maths team have visited and hosted visitors from Singapore and Shanghai.

These are extremely exciting times for our schools and the Q1E Trust. If you have a relentless drive for excellence and equality and share our focus on improvement, you should consider joining us. https://q1e.org.uk/
