Job overview

Harris Academy St John's Wood is seeking a new Principal. If you are a highly motivated senior leader with the school improvement skills and experience needed to create an Outstanding academy where both staff and students thrive, then we want to hear for you.

Your opportunity

This is a unique opportunity to join a Federation with over 80 executive and academy leaders, all of whom are committed to working together and transforming lives across London. The post would suit either an existing Principal, or a Deputy, with the leadership skills to create an Outstanding Academy. We can provide first time Principals with all the support needed in the form of individual mentoring from an established Harris Executive Principal. Alternatively, we can provide experienced Principals with progression opportunities to Executive Principal within Harris.

The successful applicant will have the chance to join a highly progressive, successful and innovative multi academy trust, and the opportunity to work alongside some of the country’s most experienced, knowledgeable and committed education practitioners. Harris has a reputation for investing in and developing successful senior leaders, and our track record of performance demonstrates the impact our academy leaders have on delivering transformative change. If you are an inspirational and talented senior leader who shares our vision for education and improving the life chances of young people in London, then we would like to hear from you.

About Harris Academy St John’s Wood

Harris Academy St John’s Wood is an 11-18 academy in the central London area of St John's Wood, situated just a few minutes' walk from the Jubilee line station. Although located in an affluent area, the academy serves an inner London community with a high proportion of pupil premium students and is ethnically richly diverse. Building on strong roots in the local community we offer places for 210 students in Year 7 and 220 in Year 12, and the academy benefits from first-class, purpose-built buildings. In September 2017, the academy joined the Harris Federation as a sponsored academy and began a fresh and exciting new journey to success.

Since joining, the academy has made good progress towards achieving academic excellence. We now seek a Principal to build upon these strong foundations.  This is a unique opportunity for a talented leader with vision and drive to continue the success of this large academy, and further develop the culture and ethos of this high-profile school.

How we invest in you as a Leader

We believe we are at the forefront of nurturing and developing academy leaders. For first time Principals, joining the Federation offers a supportive and rewarding environment to hone your skills and experience. We offer a platform for leaders to complete their National Professional Qualifications via our Teaching School, and provide coaching, mentoring and insights needed to help develop and prepare you for your next leadership challenge.

For those thinking ahead to future progression as an executive leader, the Federation offers access to a unique network of some 20+ secondary academies across London, and a community of Directors, Executive Principals and Principals who can help shape and develop your career. We also offer the option to gain your National Professional Qualification for Executive Leadership (NPQEL) through our Teaching School.
