We are one of the highest performing colleges nationally on all courses at all levels, rated Ofsted ‘Outstanding’. An exciting opportunity has arisen to lead our Mathematics, Computing, Engineering and Automotive Engineering department.
The college has one of the largest provisions of level 3 mathematics (A Level, Further Maths, Core Maths and IB Mathematics) with 528 students currently studying across the programmes. Achievement rates on all programmes are exceptional. Student progression to higher education is outstanding, with a very high proportion gaining places at Russell Group universities.
The department includes all level 1 and 2 maths provision offered to students studying mainstream education pathways. Annually, approximately 500 students undertake Functional Skills levels 1, 2, GCSE Foundation and Higher exams through daytime and part time courses. Results across the Functional Skills and GCSE programmes are among the top percentile nationally.
The digital provision offered by the College is unparalleled in scope in the region, offering pathways to key areas of industry. The department offers L2 and L3 BTEC Diplomas, T levels, Access to HE, A level Computer Science, Level 4 Apprenticeships in Software Development and Network Engineering, FdSc and BSc level degrees including a newly recently accredited FdEng in Software Development. The highly specialised team work closely with local business and deliver tailored part-time courses to industry including Cisco CCNA.
Engineering provision at the Truro campus is run from the new £7 million pound South West Institute of Technology building (one of only 12 approved nationally) with facilities matching the best in the country. These include electronic and digital laboratories, engineering workshops, specialist welding facilities a variety of industry standard, computer-controlled machinery and shared learning spaces. The new STEM centre in Bodmin (from September 2023) compliments the existing provision with its extensive range of industry standard equipment in engineering, welding and manufacturing. The Engineering team deliver vocational and academic level 2 and 3 programmes with many of our students progressing to highly sought after apprenticeships in related sectors here in Cornwall.
Team leaders are responsible for the quality of provision within their programme area, this includes the curriculum offer and content, teaching and learning, pastoral support, learning resources, recruitment and the overall student experience. It is essential that they lead, support and motivate staff members and build good relationships with stakeholders and employers.
We are seeking applicants with good academic and professional qualifications, appropriate lecturing experience and experience of leadership in an educational context. The successful candidate will be a committed professional who is able to share their enthusiasm with students and staff to deliver a cohesive programme across all courses in the programme area.
The successful applicant will be required to provide high quality teaching on education programmes and contribute to providing an outstanding learning experience for our students. A commitment to curriculum development and a flexible approach to teaching and learning are required. They will also need to work with confidence with a wide variety of ability levels and project enthusiasm for all aspects of the subject.
