Job overview

Freshsteps Independent School is an OFSTED graded ‘outstanding’ independent alternative provision. The school caters for pupils aged 5-18 years who have SEMH / SEN. We have an exciting new opportunity available at our school as a School Admin Officer.

The school has recently moved site and has invested in the construction of brand new classrooms, sports arena, gym area, library area and an indoor therapeutic, split level soft-play structure. The school is fully resourced and equipped.

Our pupils have been referred from mainstream schools due to various needs including behavioural, low numeracy, literacy, speech and language and SEMH. They have wonderful personalities and enjoy the benefit of an engaging, hands-on learning style and adapted curriculum. The school believes that every student can realise their true potential with the right support and teaching. Therefore, it sets high standards for both pupils and staff.

The school received an ‘outstanding’ rating from OFSTED in its inspection in November 2017 and again most recently in its inspection in February 2020, stating that the school ‘inspires pupils to achieve more than what they believe they are capable of’.

The role involves managing the full range of administrative support to the Head and Senior Leadership Team, ensuring continuity is maintained between staff, pupils, board members / governors, parents, carers, professionals, volunteers and visitors. Under the direction of the Headteacher, the post holder will be responsible for managing some financial processes in the school and liaising with the school finance officer. The School Office Manager will actively embrace the school’s core principles to ensure an inclusive and positive environment for our pupils with social, emotional, mental health.

You must have experience as an admin within a school.

The post holder will provide high quality, timely, centrally controlled administrative

support ensuring that all school communication, letters, events, reports, and meetings

are effectively recorded adopting efficient systems of operation.

The successful candidate for the post would ideally have:

  •  Relevant qualification to support the role
  • Level 3 qualification is desirable
  • Expert level IT and a/v skills including proficiency in a range of IT programmes and equipment use that are required for this role: knowledge of MIS systems is desirable
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, with the ability to direct others or respond appropriately to others even in pressurised situations
  • Previous experience of administration work
  • A fantastic telephone manner
  • Be a welcoming face for our parents, students and visitors
