Job overview

Outwood Academy Acklam, Middlesbrough is looking to appoint a teacher to join our supportive and motivated Science department on a permanent basis. Full time or part time considered.

Outwood Academy Acklam, which was the first Outwood school in Teesside, has almost 1200 students on roll. At its latest inspection, it was judged to be a GOOD school with OUTSTANDING leadership. We are a diverse and vibrant 11-16 academy, based in the friendly, north-east town of Middlesbrough.

We are a welcoming and supportive academy, with a relentless determination to provide the very best education for every child. We place students at the centre of everything we do, with a focus on creating a culture of success and a positive climate for learning. In a beautiful setting, enjoy the state-of-the-art facilities that the academy has to offer.

The Science Department consists of a Head of Department, Second in Charge and 6 teachers with a wide range of teaching experiences from which we all benefit. It is housed in six specialist laboratories and three hybrid teaching laboratories. All three sciences are strong and popular at Outwood Academy Acklam, with pupils regularly achieving the highest grades from a wide variety of socio-economic backgrounds. We have excellent practical teaching resources and two wonderful technicians to support your practice.

The science element of the role will involve teaching across Key Stages 3 and 4. At Key Stage 3 (Years 7 – 9) science is taught as “General Science” through our evolving, dynamic and well-resourced new KS3 course. At Key Stage 4 most teachers specialise in their degree subjects, and are actively encouraged through our Outwood Institute of Education subject CPD programmes to broaden their specialisms and future career opportunities.

This is an exciting opportunity for an excellent science teacher, at any stage of their career, to join the team.
