Job overview

Second in Humanities and Social Sciences

Required for September 2024

MPS / UPS + TLR 2c £7,368

Thomas Aquinas Catholic School & Sixth Form is seeking to appoint an outstanding Second in Humanities and Social Sciences from September 2024.

Following new leadership in September 2023, we are seeking an ambitious, driven and hard-working History teacher with an unequivocal love of the subject. This is an opportunity to shape curriculum, vision and cultural capital in an expanding department. The role would involve working closely with the Head of Humanities and would have opportunities to teach Key Stage Three, Four and Five.

We are seeking someone wants to instil in our wonderful students a love of history and help form them as young people. We only want somebody driven by a sense of mission and vocation. As such, we will be flexible for the right person in terms of working arrangements, pay and responsibilities. This is a key appointment for the school as we seek to raise achievement in a faculty that is flourishing under outstanding leadership.

St Thomas Aquinas is a large and thriving Catholic comprehensive school in the south of Birmingham. It is a place vibrant community where staff and students from all faiths live out the school mission. Examination results in summer 2022 and 2023 were excellent and in the top group of schools nationally. Building on the ‘Good’ judgement by OFSTED, the Catholic Schools Inspectorate recently judged the school to be ‘Outstanding’ in all areas. As a result, we are an oversubscribed school and becoming more and more popular with families. This is a wonderful opportunity for the right candidate to build something special and make a huge contribution in a major Catholic comprehensive school.

This is an opportunity to work in a school that makes a difference to the lives of children. You will also work with great colleagues, grow professionally and, if desired, further advance your own career.

St Thomas Aquinas Catholic School is part of Lumen Christi who are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. This post is subject to satisfactory references, which will be requested prior to interview, an enhanced DBS check, online searches, medical, evidence of qualifications plus verification of the Right to Work (RTW) in the UK. All applicants will also be required to provide two suitable references.

We actively encourage potential candidates to come visit, meet the team and see the opportunity we have at our wonderful school.

Any questions or to discuss the role, please contact Miss S Hallett.

Closing date for applications is 9am on Monday 13th May 2024.

Interviews will take place on Tuesday 14th May 2024.
