Job overview

Job Summary

Metropolitan International School seeks a dedicated professional to join our team as a Secondary Humanities Teacher, specializing in Geography and History, starting in August 2024. An ability to teach business studies in the senior years would be a distinct advantage.

Our School

Serving the international community in Viernheim for over 15 years, Metropolitan International School combines innovative learning with family-oriented care. From its modest beginnings, the school has grown into a flourishing community of around 500 students, aged from 3 months to pre-university, representing a diverse range of nationalities.

We follow the Hessen curriculum, enhanced by the Cambridge IGCSE Programme in the humanities subjects. Our students also have the opportunity to continue their studies within the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, making experience with the IB a valuable asset for candidates.

The Location

Located in the heart of the Rhein-Neckar metropolitan region, MIS enjoys direct transport links to major cities like Heidelberg, Frankfurt, and Mannheim.

The region is celebrated for its biotech and IT industries, dynamic cultural scene, and high quality of life, offering numerous opportunities for cultural exploration and travel. Frankfurt Airport, a major European hub, is just 45 minutes away, providing daily international flights and excellent connectivity throughout Europe.

The Role

We are seeking a passionate and dynamic Secondary Humanities Teacher to enhance our Middle School and Cambridge IGCSE programmes in Geography and History. The successful candidate will be committed to developing engaging curricula and instructional methods suited to the needs of international students.

Candidates should have significant experience teaching Geography and History, ideally including the Cambridge IGCSE framework, and a qualification enabling them to teach in an English-medium instruction environment. Experience with the IB would be considered an advantage. This role requires a deep understanding of the humanities, along with pedagogical strategies tailored to diverse learning styles.

What We Offer You

Joining the Metropolitan International School means becoming part of a professional team within a positive work environment that encourages innovation and collaboration. We provide attractive staff development opportunities to foster your growth as an educator. Enjoy the freedom to express your educational ideas and design your classroom setup, supported by a competitive wage and comprehensive employment conditions. Benefits include subsidised transport across Germany and participation in our lunch program, along with integration support such as housing, banking, and navigating local governmental regulations.

Application Process

Interested candidates are invited to apply through the TES online portal. Please ensure to upload the following with your application:

  • A copy of your degree certificate.
  • Relevant teaching qualifications (e.g., B.Ed., M.Ed., PGCE, 2. Staatsexamen). Note: TEFL/CELTA certificates alone are not sufficient.

All applications must be submitted by the closing date of Sunday, 3rd June 2024. This can be done via the TES online application form. Early applications are encouraged as MIS reserves the right to contact exceptional candidates ahead of the deadline.

Metropolitan International School is dedicated to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. The successful applicant will therefore undergo comprehensive background checks.
