About the role

Expressions of interest are currently invited from experienced Secondary School Teachers who are keen to move to Australia to continue their career. Successful applicants would be required to commence in January 2025.

Expressions of interest are especially encouraged from experienced teachers in the following disciplines:

  • Science (the ability to teach Chemistry and junior Science is advantageous)
  • Commerce (with flexibility to teach some junior humanities)
  • Digital technologies (including Algorithmics)
  • English

As a teacher in our Secondary School, you will be someone who is able to demonstrate:

  • An innovative and engaging approach to teaching students across Years 7 to 12. 
  • Ability to deliver curriculum to different ages and abilities, using frequent formative assessment to check for student understanding.
  • Effective classroom management skills to maximise learning opportunities for students.
  • Knowledge of research findings relevant to student learning.
  • A pursuit of continuous improvement and self-reflection as a teacher.
  • A commitment to collaborate with colleagues in planning, implementing and reviewing curriculum through the design and editing of shared resources.
  • The ability to establish and foster relationships with students, staff and parents.
  • A willingness to be actively involved in the cultural, pastoral and co-curricular activities of the School.
  • Successful applicants will be required to register with the Victorian Institute of Teacher.
  • Support with Sponsorship/Visa will be provided (if required).

Anticipated process

Applications will be shortlisted as they are received with initial interviews taking place over Microsoft Teams. Applicants who proceed past this stage will be offered the opportunity to meet with the Headmaster in London mid-late June 2024. Details regarding this will be discussed with relevant applicants.

About Brighton Grammar School

Brighton Grammar School (BGS) is an Independent Anglican Boys School in Brighton, Melbourne, Australia. It is an all through school teaching up to year 12 and starting with an Early Learning Centre (ELC) programme.

BGS was founded as a school for boys by Dr George Henry Crowther in 1882. Since then, BGS has had an unbroken history in turning generations of boys into successful men. Through significant and ongoing investment in facilities, staff and new teaching techniques BGS has been able to constantly adapt to an ever changing world to ensure that our students have the skills and self-belief to meet the demands society places on men.

Brighton Grammar School follows the guidelines of the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA), and primarily the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA). The school says the delivery of this curriculum is designed specifically to best suit the styles and needs of boys.

Students will work towards receiving the VCE (Victorian Certificate of Education) at the end of Year 12.
