Job overview

Are you committed and passionate about SEN Education? We are looking for a Senior Teacher to join our established team. This is a real opportunity to make a difference for the children that we teach. This is a role which combines strategic development with operational delivery on a daily basis.

Sutherland House School is a non-maintained special school for autistic children and young people aged 3-19. The school is located in the heart of the Creative Quarter in the City Centre.

At Sutherland House school Positive Behaviour Support and Person-Centred approaches are of paramount importance and you will be able to contribute to the continued strategic and operational development of this.

We offer small class groups, high staffing ratios and excellent opportunities for training and continued professional development.

As a member of the Senior Leadership Team you will play a critical role in the translation of its vision into clear objectives that promote and sustain measurable school development; ensuring that the school continuously improves and is aspirational for our students.

You will have the opportunity to work in collaboration with the School Governing Body, Board of Trustees and Autism East Midlands’ Senior Management team.

You will have responsibility for a defined area including but not limited to the development of the Purple Pathway with responsibility for the attainment, attendance and behaviour for pupils who follow our Purple Pathway curriculum. In addition, you will maintain a defined teaching commitment of two days a week.

Previous experience with children and young people with autism or teaching in an additional needs environment at any age is desirable but full training and support will be given. We also welcome applications from colleagues who have experience of teaching core subjects.

Visits by prior arrangement are highly recommended. Please contact us on shsadmin@aem.org.uk to organise a visit with the Head Teacher.

The closing date for applications is Monday 3rd June, with interviews planned on Friday 7th June, however we reserve the right to call strong applicants early for interview, hence early application is advised.
